Hello,

My name is Alex and I just recently moved to Madison!

I have been reading a lot about bees and beekeeping.

I am a student and only going part time with some time I would like to spend with bees.

I would love the opportunity to learn from others and learn from hands on experience about bees and beekeeping.

Please let me know if anyone would like some help on their hives/be willing to teach me about the wonders of beekeeping!

Hey Alex!
FH King Students for Sustainable Agriculture is looking for bee interns this summer! It's a volunteer position. You can apply to intern with our garden in general here - just indicate you'd like to focus on bee-keeping.

More info on FH King here: http://fhkingstudents.wixsite.com/fhking

Hi!
I am wondering how did you manage to get the bees permitted in a community garden as I applied for such permission with the City last year and was denied (at Moorland Community Garden).  Will you advise about this?
Thanks!

The bees are kept inside a locked fence about 1/4 mile away from the community garden.

Well, here is a reason my application was denied (it never even reached the point of specifying the requirements for the approval, be it gates, locks, distance, whatever):

It was a difficult decision since the primary concern does not have anything to do with the Moorland garden. The city of Madison does not have guidance regarding beehives on city and, after reaching out to Parks and the Mayor's office, it was clear that the city needs to do quite a bit of work identifying authority and developing guidance for beehives on city land. Since your garden is located on sewage district land, that means there are additional layers to decision-making and clarifying policy regarding hives on city land.
