So for those that don't know the, firetruck/roomba combination (worse known as Burnadette) did relatively well at Maker Faire Detroit, putting down close to reasonable lap times before the steering broke irreparably. While we have the momentum and institutional memory, I'd like to work on continuing to improve it to make it more competitive for milwaukee/detroit next year. It won't cost a ton of money and it would increase our profile at Maker events in addition to being a fun project. To be clear, The ROI would probably still be negative since we don't do much recruiting at regional maker faires but the outlay wouldn't be huge. Probably only a couple hundred dollars for wheels/tires, a proper seat, some better electrical quick connects/wiring, maybe pedals.

Is this something you would support spending club money on and/or want to contribute personally to?

I have all the electrical interconnects you will need… When can I meet with you?

I'll be at the space tonight and tomorrow and again on tuesday. Specifically we're looking for single pole  6-10awg connectors much like the ones you probably used on the battle bots.

Exactly what I …ummmm…. 6Ga?

Mine may be a wee bit beefy. Made to handle 42AH of batteries to dump in < 3 min J

[Yeah, 210A per motor I think]

So, 1 Ga wire.

However, smaller gauge should be fine, as long as you get a crimping guy/gal with a seriously strong grip J

I’ll try to swing by tomorrow

Jesus christ.

nothing wrong with heavier wire for the battery harness if you have any extra. What kind of quick connects are they?

I would very much like to race at milwaukee if we can get a group together to do it. the biggest thing that has to happen is a ground up redesign of of the steering system which I will speerhead. It also may be worth lowering the diver's position to improve stability and turning authority. If someone has or is willing to donate a lowback bucket seat that would make a huge difference. Something like this this https://smile.amazon.com/JEGS-Performance-Products-70200-High/dp/B007VRCTD6/ . A low back seat like this
Image result for low back bucket seat kart
would be better but that has been hard to find at a reasonable price. I am also working on a quick change battery system. Might be worth using a smaller 3 battery set for the qualifying lap

Milwaukee? Excellent! We'd love to have you. If you can fill out the Call for Makers, it would be helpful:

    https://milwaukee.makerfaire.com/call-for-makers/

We've got about 9 teams/15 cars right now, but room for more.

If you need a place to crash and/or travel funds, let me know and I'll see what we can do. (I'm a member of Milwaukee Makerspace and one of the Producers of Maker Faire Milwaukee.)

There were basically exactly enough of the already wired quick connects to get everything set up with a set up including 6 spares for the second set of batteries. Even got everything color coded!

Thanks again

Not 100% Sure, but I think larger. They were the largest that Grainger had

(I was pushing, at peak, 400Amps thru them. The Connectors never failed (Had some 1Ga Wire melt… never the connector)
