All,

Please don't forget the LVL1 Wiki update-a-thon is tomorrow from noon to 4. All are welcome to contribute. No specific skill level is required - in fact, for some things the more unfamiliar you are with something the better reviewer you make!

Please bring your own laptop, with wireless, if you can do so easily; I'd hate to have more willing hands than keyboards :) I am hoping to bring a couple of extra laptops to let people edit articles as needed but we'll also have some of the random PCs around the space (that said, if someone wants to laser or vinyl cut, etc, please evacuate the PC so they can use it for its primary purpose). Also, if you just want to read existing wiki articles and suggest changes, you can definitely do that easily on most tablets or phones.

There will be punch & pie*!

Thanks!

*Punch and Pie may actually be random pastries/baked goods and various sodas due to logistics.

If you need inspiration, just found this makerspace. They have an interesting dues structure, required training for tools before you can use some of the items. Good wiki.

They are upgrading their space to almost 16K SQ FT.

The space is now open. And no, I'm not above bribery.

All,

We had quite a few edits completed today, as well as some prep work for more changes to come. I saw edits on the equipment level, general info about the space, and quite a bit of historical info. Ben and Issac, Nathan (and I missed the name of the young lady with you, I'm terribly sorry!), and Charles The Hat were present, along with a couple of other folks using the space for general items.

Equipment wise, quite a bit was done for the Rabbit laser cutter and maintenance items relating to it, plus Clive Badger and MakerWare software. Thanks so much for taking the time to show me how to use the 3D Printer so I could document it, Nathan! Ben and Isaac did a lot of cleanup work on the 'about the space' pages, including some new overhead views of the space with the parking areas marked. I tracked down some news articles and added them to a new "Last 6 Months of News" section, so when people are looking for ways to show what the space has been up to, it's at hand. The Hat was going hammer and tongs at the history of our dinners, the last I looked, which is a great way to demonstrate the community LVL1 has. We updated information about safety, first aid and fire extinguishers. Nathan also updated information about the Shapeoko.

On a physical world side, while we were at work in the wiki, several of us took the opportunity to do some cleanup and maintenance work on the various bits we were writing about. Nathan took charge of directing a fairly massive cleanup of the wood shop, which sorely needed it. I believe a new extinguisher location was more clearly tagged in that area, next to the peg board. Ben and Isaac did quite a bit of general space cleaning, which was good as we had some leftover cruft from last night, it seems (plenty of soda & red bull cans, solo cups, and various plates and napkins scattered around the place). I took some time to pick out the laser bed, since I know some folks have had issues w/ their material not sitting flat due to the debris that's in the bed mesh on top of the support rails. We also put a new label on Clive Badger and printed an easy to use magnetic indicator to hang on the frame & mark if you've recently leveled the bed in case multiple people are working on the unit (to save time). Nathan also took a collection of equipment photos to add to a new template and to help identify the gear for new members.

Overall, I think it's a good start and demonstrates that we can have a pretty large impact in a fairly small period of time. We left a large strip of paper across a central worksurface where we were making various notes about progress and ideas. I'll try to stop by tomorrow to knock a few more off the list, but they're available for tweaking. Thanks so much to the folks who came by today (all of whom were still at it when *I* had to leave at 5:30 or so) - it was a lot of fun and I think we accomplished a good mix of items between pure documentation, ideas for future work, and real world results improving the space. I'd love to see some more edits - perhaps while we're having the director's meeting Tuesday, some of the folks who couldn't make it today will pick up the baton and see how many updates or fixes they can do while we're in the classroom being meeting'd to death?

As a side note, I brought far too much snack food and soda, so we'll likely have some items for the Tuesday night meeting. The dozen or so 2 liters arrayed across the table facing the kitchen are 'fair game', but since Ben isn't going to be cooking Tuesday due to the Director's meeting, it  may not hurt to save them and the remaining snacks for that :)

Hi all,

OK, I have pretty much nailed down what the class will be,
Part 1:Slide show/talk/display of "issues"/Questions/hands on demo/free work/photographing/labeling work with directions, packing...
Part 2: I unpack projects, ensure they still match the picture... fix if need be, and kilnwork per directions. when done, bring to meeting (Will probably take ~ a week to get back)

Price: Just enough to cover the costs to get the materials (Glass from Bullseye, a couple kiln forming molds, etc... I am expecting solidly under 20.00)

Date: Well, this is the "challenging" part...
3/28 -  Nixed due to March Madness
4/4 -    Nixed due to Easter
4/11 -  Nixed due to conflict with GE/Firstbuild Hackathon
So.... I am now looking at April 18. I am planning to launch the official EventBright page on 3/31 Right after Danielle shows me how to :) looking at 25.00 gen pop, 20.00 LVL1 ("Magic Discount"), unspent funds roll into the general fund, etc...

Now, that date is long enough before the event for EventBright but may not quite be enough for BullsEye, Delphi, Slumpys, etc  So I am looking for a rough count...

Who is interested?
Need 4 to have a go, over 20 and I'll have to rethink supplies (As in, purchasing "Art Packs" instead of asst singles)

If interested, what's your favorite color (No promises, but I'll have a go)

thanks,
pat

Charles,

Several, including Ben, Isaac, Nathan, Charles, etc; I wrote up a follow up 3 days ago with quite a bit of detail that should have hit the list.

Thanks,

Sean
