Home Automation with 'Internet of Things' Part 1

Mike Andrews

Monday February 27th 2016 at 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Bolingbrook, Fountaindale Library, Meeting Room A

Abstract

This presentation will include a live tour of the home automation under development in a wired home that has computer controlled devices including lights, security cameras, door openers and locks, window shades, thermostat, fire and intrusion alarms, flooding prevention, real time electric power monitoring and control. The first session will be an overview of the various home automation technologies and control hubs, with a view of how they interconnect and interact.

Featured will be demonstrations of the Xtension Home Automation control system that runs on Mac OS X, the Blue Iris camera surveillance DVR system that runs on Windows and mobile applications running on Android and IOS.

Among the HA protocols discussed will be wired and wireless X-10, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, analog and IP connected audio/video, Infrared bridges for remote control, and other RF protocols, all connected with a TCP/IP home network backbone using up to Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
