Hi,

Is it my imagination or has the IR module disappeared from the Loxone store?

Just I'm considering options for audio notifications and music in 2 rooms, one of which would just be a 2 zone, 2 channel amp... that would be controlled using IR.

Naturally I assume one can get an RPi and IR blaster to control such a device over LAN from Loxone but am curious about them removing their option.

Cheers,

Robin

Rob,

The IR Control Air is available in all Loxone stores:

It has replaced the old IR Extension and IR Modules many months ago.

Thanks for the heads up.

But oh dear, Loxone! Expensive, needs a wireless base which is also expensive and is wireless only (lots of us don't like wireless).

DIY might still be a possibility, will discuss in another thread.

Hi Rob,
I noticed about month ago that the IR extension with the wired module has been silently discontinued. And because I had all the wiring already prepared, I immediately started seeking that item across local partners and luckily found one in stock.
That story revealed to me an unpleasant fact, that few more product are about to go away/have gone (and were replaced by proprietary alternatives). For example, water leak sensor (wired) has been replaced with AIR version, outdoor temperature / humidity 0-10V, external illumination sensor and/or wind speed sensor has been replaced with weather station, and few others.
You can call me old school, but I strongly prefer wired stuff over any wireless solution. I do have EnOcean extension though to help me solve some corner scenarios I forgot to wire properly (yes, three or four years ago there was almost nothing AIR). But even if I had AIR, I surely would not want to exchange the battery in a leak sensor placed behind the washing machine/dishwasher every two years.
I fully understand that deployment of an AIR based system is much easier and quicker, I am not quite sure if also cheaper, but the reliability is a key for me and that's why I am a bit disappointed about the future with Loxone products being majority AIR based.

I don't really get Loxone's approach. They eschew Z-wave and Zigbee. Then they launch Air because apparently they are superior engineers to everyone else out there. Then they drop one of their main differentiators slowly by making everything wireless (and not even dual mode, but wireless only).

And then they, of course, overcharge for everything.
