I haven't seen anyone local selling... Have any of you?

Does anyone have a sizable lock collection?  Mine is rather small still.

Couple of masterlocks, a few schlage and a few qwiksets.

you can get picks local but you need to  at "least" have a federal tax id number .   personally bought picks local for a company i worked for .     little shy bout posting sources online

id suggest makeing your own picks at first i can give a howto an have the tools an supply's to share.
if you wanna get fancy you need high quality lockpicks which i dont own ,  just cheap ones a homemade in my collection
honestly dont do it enough to justify paying for a nice set , maybe we could take a collection of money up an then donate the tools to the group .

Really?  they want a tax-id?  They're not illegal to own/purchase/sell in Kentucky.

I've made my own picks before, and have purchased few small sets.  I was just thinking for teaching/practicing... it'd be nice to have a lot of standard hook picks and tensioners to pass around to people.

I've got some CAD layouts for a decent kit.. Just need to find someone who can cut 0.018 steel sheets from my CADs, else I'm making these by hand.

Anyone have sources to spring steel strips?  I'm all out of used windshield wipers.  :D

Hell... I've got as far as to make them out of old stainless steel steak knives from the salvation army or hacksaw blades on a grinder... Just takes so long to do by hand.

As long as you are not running a pick selling business and filing sales tax then there's no need for a tax-id. Some higher-end security shops may require some type of ID or proof you are a locksmith, however I've never seen anything those places sell that a hobby picker would need anyway (and they over-charge for most of their stuff). These two sites have quality gear and are cheap:

www.lockpicktools.com
www.lockpicks.com

Since yall are in Kentucky there's no issue with locksmith licensing. Of course making your own is fine and great, but not if you are outfitting a dozen people with sporting equipment.
