How to customize loopback errors

I would like to make some customizations to built-in error handling mechanism in loopback:
- add new codes and messages
- translate existing messages to add multi-language support

Where can I find the list of the existing error codes and messages in loopback, as well as their relationship with http error codes?

What is the best place to manipulate this built-in definition and add new errors and translation logic?
