Agenda for General Meeting:  7.9.13

Board Elections

We need to elect 2 board members.  Has everyone interested in being on the board put their name up on the Google Group Discussion on this topic?  If not, please do so.  Also, please show up Tuesday so you can say a few words to the group.

Space Update

We have insurance.  I'm meeting with the Mall manager tomorrow at 1:30am to sign the lease.  We do not get immediate possession (headquarters has to process the lease first) but I'm hoping for a key before the end of the week.

Also, Steve Heising has a proposal to 'share' the space with the Citizen for Clean Energy that might cover the rent at the Mall.  It's not an offer (he needs to talk to his non profit board about it first) but it's a possible scenario.  I'd like to know what you folks think of the idea.  We'll talk more about it at the meeting.

It's time to talk about funding options

As we all know, this stuff costs money (not alot, but still, some).  I fronted $2K to the checking account to cover what was needed to get the space rent/deposit/insurance paid for, but we, as a group, need to cover that (and then..at a minimum... the monthly nut of, currently, a flat $500 and internet access of about $80).  Here's an idea I'd like to propose.  "Levels" of sponsorship:

A Founder Level

Those that can throw in $300 (or more), we'll give the designation as "Founders".  They'll forever be listed on the website as Founders (in the about section) of TinkerMill.  Something interesting you can put on (and link to) in your LinkedIn profile or resume tomorrow or 10 years from now.  (edit:  ONE TIME Throw in).

Ideally, I'd love to see 20 people do that.  That would give us money to really get this off the ground reasonably quickly.

10 would be OK to good.

is the minimum we need just to cover the initial setup costs.

A Founding Member Level

Those that can throw in $100-250 (instead of the standard $50 a mo we agreed to before for membership) get the designation of Founding Member.  Same deal.  But not at the top level of the about page (a link to another page instead).  (EDIT: ONE TIME Throw In).

Regular Members

Folks that are only comfortable covering the monthly membership cost for student/regular/family-$25/50/75, for whatever reason.

Of course, we'll still have standard member fee's due each month from everyone (including founders and founding members) who wants access to the space (defined as:  A key for 24/7 access).  ($25/50/75).

Business sponsorships are also a potential, but it's better if we get this going under our own steam first.

OR if you have better ideas.. let's hear them Tuesday night.  Basically we need $1500-ish to move in.  $1500-ish to apply for 501(c)3 status and $600-ish a month to pay the rent/internet bill.

As usual, if you have other items you'd like to cover in the agenda, shoot me an email or post them on the Google Group page (top item: Agenda Thread...i.e. where you're reading this now).

7.16.13 Meeting Agenda

Board Meeting Update
We have a Board of Directors!-Siouxie, Mike, Lindsay, Karl, Scott.
We have a treasurer:!Jeff
We have a Sergent at Arms!Chris Y.
We also adopted the by-law the subgroup created a few weeks ago.  You can see them here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eqb7w87s2qSNAO24WxjvfDIoho6C49xtUJf4-vIPmzA/edit?usp=sharing
We'll have them up on the site shortly.
Karl will give a short summary of the Board Meeting Minutes (which will also go up on the site shortly).
--------------------------------------
Infrastructure update:  Karl
Social Media / Systems Update:  Mike
Classes Update: ?? (we need a classmaster!)
Toolmaster Update: Siouxie
--------------------------------------
Space Update
We'll have a key (hopefully) or we won't.  If we do.. ROAD TRIP: We're all going to mall.  Right now.  If no key: later this week we'll set up a time for everyone to come by.

Internet: Karl researched it.  Quick report from him.  Also, I Talked to the City of Longmont about internet access.  They MIGHT be able to give us Gigabit Fiber fed wireless off of  the water tower next to Sunset Pool/golfcourse.  Vince Jordan (manager of the fiber project) and I are going to get up on the roof and see later this week/next week.
--------------------------------------
Membership gets real: It's time to sign up as a member.  Paperwork!!!  (membership and services agreement, Policies and Procedures agreement, Membership and Guess Waiver agreement, Services Addendum.. oh my!).

If you come to the meeting Tuesday YOU DO NOT have to sign up as a member.  You CAN sign up as a member, starting Tuesday night.  We have the technology (checking account, treasurer who can collect cash and checks..only.. so far).  And we have the paperwork.

-I'll have handouts of the (actual) paperwork for those that don't print out copies from the links below.   ($25- Student/Starving hacker, $50- Regular Membership, $75- Family Membership).

Right now, (again) we can only take checks (preferred) or cash.  We'll have an update on our electronic money capabilities soon.

--------------------------------------
Founders.  Founding Members.  Regular Members.
As we discussed last week, we have startup costs.  Most hackerspaces have a set of Founders who effectively fund the cost of getting the initial hackerspace started.

We need in the area of $2000-3000, at a minimum to get this done.  In order to do that, we need as many as you as can afford it to become Founders or Founding Members.

As you recall, the breakdown is simple:

Founders:  Pledge $300 or more.  One time.  Separate from monthly membership fees (see above).

Founding Members: Pledge $100-250.  One time.  Separate from monthly membership fees (see above).

Along with the regular membership paperwork, I'll include two additional pieces of paper (links to all of these documents are below).  One is a pledge to throw in enough to be a Founder.  The other is a pledge to throw in enough to be a founding member.  These don't require you write a check.  They just require that you throw in that amount of money sometime (reasonably) soon, as you're comfortable doing it (could be X dollars for 3 months, for instance).  If you do it, I'll sign it and you're on the hook for some cash (and, seriously major kudos).

One is titled Founder.  The other Founding member.  I'm hoping we can get at least between 6-10 founders and 10-15 founding members.  That would give us a great, healthy start.

If you're not up for it or it's not your thing, no worries.

There are no redo's here.  We do Founders and Founding members one time only and now is that time.  I'm hoping many (if not most) of you step up.  Founding funds ensures we have a real and a healthy organization to start down the path with.
-----------------------------------------

Here's the paperwork we need everyone to get filled out (if not this meeting, when you can).  Please print out your own copy and bring it if you can.  These were taken from Artist Asylum's paperwork examples (modified to fit our own needs) and the Waiver agreement is from Lindsay (Sparkfun).

Phones and meetings!

We've got a phone in the space now.

303-747-7299

If you want to check to see if someone is there, or you're meeting someone there but don't have their number, or you're not a member yet, don't have the key code, and would like to hang out there if a member's also hanging out... give it a call.

We also can now take credit cards for folks who'd like to join as members but forgot how to write a check (I'm one of those folks...I can't even find my checks).

Next meeting of the group is this Tuesday, 7/30/13.  7pm-ish.  Space planning and 'hands on electrician' action (a real time 'live wire' class, so to speed).. we'll be figuring out how to rewire the space for our needs and, possibly, pulling in some 220 power and other wiring variations.

I've also brought the Rostock 3D printer in (One of our members sons has some experience building them and we need some 'fix this expertise').  It may or may not be working by Tuesday, but it'll be there for gawking and, hopefully, demo purposes.

Themes for regular "Hack Nights"  (Civic for example).  OR we can leave it open.  Maybe after every Tuesday Member Meeting?  Here's a description of a more open format Hack Night out of New Orleans:

What IS a Hack Night?  It's a gathering for programmers, designers, hardware hackers and other technically minded folks.  It's an aggressively unstructured way to hack amongst peers, converse about the vagaries of this or that methodology of developmental arts, or simply to partake of delicious libations in delightful company.  There is no agenda, no presentations, no requirements, and hackers and the hacker-curious of all levels are welcome to attend.
How to start:  Come and ask a question.  "What kind of database should I use for this project", or "Why should I care about type systems?" or "I hear about node.js vs. Ruby on Rail vs. PHP vs. Python, etc. etc. -insert your current techno/quasireligious argument - which is better?"

Cross Hacker Space Membership(s)

Talking with: Solid State Depot (Boulder); Concoctory (S. Denver); Denhac (N. Denver) and LoveLand CreativitySpace (Loveland) about cross memberships.

Colorado Hackerspace Council (?).  Who's interested?

Hackathons

Do we want to do these?

What focus would you like to have it on? (School/student/education; Municipal; Business; Other).

Quarterly? Semi Annual?  Annual?  Other?

Who's interested in helping make this happen?

Member Projects Update

We are now, officially, looking for sponsors.  This could be your employer, or someone you know at a local company (or a national company with local representation) or other entity that's willing to donate money or equipment to TinkerMill.  If you know someone, please have them contact Scott at 303.85.1243 or scott.c...@gmail.com

Member Meeting Agenda  1-7-2014

2014 is going to be a big year

2013 was our warm up and get it together year.  We've done that.

2014 we will be our come into our own year.  We'll become a truly positive force in the community

City Council Open Forum. 1.14.14-7pm

-Should we hit the City Council up with a group of us asking for the City to directly support a hackerspace?

The January 14 city council meeting, beginning at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, will be an Open Forum for residents to talk for 5 minutes each to council members about any topic on their minds. This is the only agenda   item for this meeting; plan to arrive a little early to put your name on the list of speakers. For more information about city council meetings visithttp://www.ci.longmont.co.us/city_council.

if yes:  Who wants to join in, and when can we meet/plan? (Suggest: Sunday during open house sometime).

Forum Use-  tinkermill.org version vs. google groups vs. meetup.com forums (yes, we’re still using all three).  Can we pick one?

Website -  Now that it's up, would like to really get it updated with content, info, pictures,  and do it regularly  (bi weekly working meeting/hangout?)  Also need a blog function (I’ll write it for awhile, but all of us can contribute).

-Google Calendar of all events (ASAP).  Who can take point? (import from meetup.com)

Commission Work & Consulting?  http://columbusideafoundry.com/commission_work/

Something like this maybe:

The TinkerMill Hackerspace can design and build your project!  From individual client commission work to small business solutions, our talented fabricators can make it happen.

With our 3D Printers, wood-shop, metal & welding stations, CNC router, laser cutter & engraver, and a diverse in-house talent pool from which we can draw specializing in electronics & embedded control, interactive programming, copy writing, CAD & assorted design software, videography, leather-work, warm glass, game design, robotics, animation, software development, IT Security, and more, we’re a one-stop shop for your custom needs.

Is there interest in us doing this?  Effectively making TinkerMill a place where it becomes know as the place to go for Longmont area tech/art talent?
