Hi Hackers,

Does anyone have any spare, strong (~50kg+ pull) electromagnets they would be willing to sell?

Thought this might be a good place to ask.

Cheers,

Isaac

out of curiosity *how* much copper would one of these contain assuming 240v? The value of the copper alone must be a fortune?

240 Volts is much higher than normal for such magnets. On Ebay and Amazon you can get 12/24v magnets at around 500N pull for £20-30. Not that much copper in those I guess. I couldn't find any 240v ones.

50kg WEIGHT might be valuable.
50kg PULL isn't anything like so much, especially if that's just the holding force for something in contact.

I'm not sure how you specify the pull for things that aren't in contact - I guess it's very dependent on the pole shape.

20kg door hold magnets seem to run about £30. 50kg about £70. They're mostly 24Vdc, but some people mention 230V. I suspect that includes a power supply.
