Hello,

We recently received an HTC Vive dev kit from Valve. It's amazing and blew everyone's mind at the office. It ships with some pretty awesome demos and the technology is far beyond anything else on the market right now.

If there's interest we can come down and setup for members to give it a go. We need a 4m x 3m area, so I think the classroom will do fine.

Cheers,

J.

I'd love to see this - I'm actively doing development on a couple of vr projects using the DK2 and Unity. 5 at present (very seriously buggy integration). I suspect that the Steam chaps know a bit more about actually testing and delivering across multiple platforms than Oculus.

Say when! :)

I'll be interested in this too, maybe worth doing on a wednesday evening when the classroom is not usually booked?

Looks like the classroom is free on the 11. Sorry, for the noob question, but is there a way to reserve it from 18:30 to 20:30

There are quite a few events that evening, which means we can schedule walk in demos around the people that register interest on this thread. We can show one of our WIP demos and one currently available in the private steam VR beta. We also have a Gear VR demo on hand to keep those waiting entertained.

Me and at my colleague Sergio will be on deck to manage and share our knowledge :)

Cheers,

J.

I've added it to the HackSpace Events calendar for next wednesday for that time.
Looking forward to checking it out and looking at your demos!

Hi,

Please come see me if or when you come tonight. We will take as many "walk-ins" as possible, but I will prioritise the people on this thread and make sure you get a demo.

Those who can't make it tonight, drop me an email and we can work something out. We will either have other demos at the Hackspace and host some in our office.

Cheers,

J.

I should have my cubify sense 3d scanner with me. We might be able to do something surreal like scan ourselves then walk around the scan!

Thanks for the demo folks
I think we have a lot to look forward to in the world of vr
Especially if this was *only* the dev kit! :)

Its probably time to start investing in empty internet and power-cabled shipping containers as homes, it'll be needed once the uploadconsciousness starts.

Thanks for doing such a great demo, I had a massive grin on my face all the way home. I was very surprised at how natural moving around and peering at things felt, but I was most impressed with how everyone was able to grab the controllers using the headset (at least until we accidentally jostle the laser-tower-thing, oops).
