Russss has has asked me to write to the list about the damage found on
the laser-cutter.

On Wednesday evening I found a large dent in the laser-cutter case,
the center of the dent was below the handle of the cutting area cover,
it was so deep that it jammed the mechanism inside used to more the
optics around. After I pulled the dent the laser-cutter worked again.
Possible solutions to stop this happening again include having the
Makerbot and a camera nearby to draw away luddites.

What? You're saying someone *beat* the laser cutter?

It was probably accidental damage caused by moving something heavy
that bumped into the laser cutter.

While on the topic of momentum induced destruction, can anyone shed any
light as to what happened to the double gang 13A socket which was
previous mounted above one of the work benches? It appears to show the
signs of having dissapated a large amount of energy. What the Regs
would refer to as "Mechanical Damage" but almost certainly not the
example that they had in mind...

The momentum transfer in question was caused by putting the socket on a table then unplugging the rage saw from it causing the weight of the cable to pull it off the table.

The plan is to replace it soon with a ruggedised version that shouldn't be susceptible to the same scenario.

At the moment the plug has been removed from this to prevent its use (given that there isn't complete covering).
