This evening I found a USB stick all lonely and abandoned.
It is now safe and warm in the company of some pocket fluff.
Should the owner wish to be reunited with it then email me (I didn't
know where to put it in the space...)

Are you sure it's lost? There are some USB-HDD sticks in the Space for
people to use.

nope I'm not sure at all, it was not there when I started working and
then after hurting myself with gEDA for a while I looked up and everyone
(nearly) had left and there it was. If no one claims it then I'll leave
it back at the space next time...
