Back door not opening from outside

The back door is not opening from the outside. The indicator goes green to show the card's been recognised, but the door latch does not open.

It works fine when operating the door manually from the inside (pressing the red button).

The box containing the Pi and the relay is open and it looks like the electronics have been pulled out, although it's hard to tell whether that's the cause or someone's attempt at fixing it.

The last time it died totally, it was the relay contacts worn away, I replaced the relay.

It’s quite easy to confirm, with a voltmeter on the relay coil vs on the contacts.

FYI the red button on the inside is a mechanical release so does not prove anything electrical.

The electronics has always looked rather messy……
