Postdoctoral Researcher post in Semantic Web Technologies at Birkbeck, University of London, Department of Computer Science

A full-time Postdoctoral Researcher post is available to work on a challenging interdisciplinary project: ‘Mapping Museums - the history and geography of the UK independent sector 1960-2020’. The project is funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council and aims at collecting and analysing data about the emergence, character and development of the UK independent museums sector.

The post-holder will be responsible for research, design and implementation of an RDF database enabling domain experts to search and query the data, as well as a range of visualisations enabling exploration of the data from their different perspectives. The successful candidate will have a PhD in data management, with expertise in one or more of: data modelling, querying, visualisation, database applications development. They will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills and a successful track record of publications in leading conferences and/or journals. Experience of semantic web technologies, web technologies, automated testing, technical documentation production, and use of version and source-control software is essential.

The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birkbeck (www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk) is one of the first computing departments established in the UK and will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2017. It is a world-class centre of expertise in information and knowledge management, intelligent systems, algorithms, and data analysis. It engages in a broad range of both fundamental and applied research and hosts two interdisciplinary research centres, the Birkbeck Knowledge Lab and the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics.
