Mr. Riemers:

When you get to Orlando, ask one of the members of the Convention Organizing Committee about Helms-Briscoe.  I think they perfom the “travel agent” function you are asking about.   I am pretty sure they are helping us select a site for the 2018 Convention.  I am not sure if using them is worth it for the 20 or so room nights we generate during an LNC Session.

One can certainly find hotel rooms that are under $100 per night, and have free breakfasts.  But such a beast does not exist in the California cities that have decent air travel connections.  I doubt the LNC would be willing to meet in Visalia or Redding, which have a few commercial flights and most likely cheap hotel rooms.

One of the things you implicitly agree to when you join the LNC is that sometimes we will have in-person meetings in hotels where the room cost will be near the USA Average, which I think was around $125 per night when I quoted it a few weeks ago.

If this board was consistently agreeing to have LNC Sessions in hotels that cost us $180 or $250 per night, then I would agree that we should be looking for cheaper quarters.

The Rosen Centre – $95 per night (IIRC) with a free breakfast, and only 3 miles from DisneyWorld, is about the best deal you are ever going to see during this LNC term.

In regards to the printer,  I had not yet read the costs of the printer when I replied (the problem with emails is we get the newest one first,  and we have to read all the emails to fully understand what has taken place).   In this instance,  $11k for a printer seems overly expensive,  and I personally would never have spent that much. But,  I do not know who made that decision or why.   But even in my own organization I have had workers piss away money for this or that tool or object because "I needed to get the job done",  but if they had taken a few seconds to ask me,  I could have handed it to them out of our shop or supplies.   Making stupid decisions is just part of human nature.  I do think we need to look at the entire picture.   While costly,  maybe the delux printer allowed them to double their work or it really increase our membership or cash inflow.   I am a realestate investor in real life,  and I always tell people I do not care how much a property costs,  I  mostly want to know how much it will make me.  So, while costly,  if the printer is paying for itself,  then who cares.

Speaking of costs,  one of my concerns is the high costs of these LNC meetings and also our 2016 convention.  I also dislike seeing our DC staff tied up for weeks scheduling out an event.   I would suggest we instead put that job onto a commercial travel agent in the DC area.  They could not only arrange our site, but also our transportation to the site, and probably at a cheaper price then what our staff comes up with. (I am assuming of course staff is not currently using a travel agent?).   I believe our next LNC meeting is likely going to be in California?  I would therefore suggest we try using a DC travel agent for this.   My consideration for a site would be that it be at a hotel where the rooms cost less then $100;   it has a free airport shuttle, and a free breakfast, and a meeting room that is reasonably priced.

Redpath mentioned a stand-in candidate for Presdient.  Actually,  if we don't get anything better then what I have read about so far,  I would seriously like to see somebody like Redpath take up the torch.  Bill is cool and collected and intelligent and besides Redpath would be a great name to have on a ballot, and certainly he would make a better debater or president then Hillary or Donald Duck.
