Our IT department is rolling out the Chrome browser to now be supported (already use Firefox and IE).   But, we are now learning that there is no longer an adobe reader plug-in that can be used in Chrome?
When we try to render forms from LiveCycle in the Chrome Browser we get:

"The document you are trying to load requires Adobe Reader 8 or higher. You may not have the Adobe Reader installed or your viewing environment may not be properly configured to use Adobe Reader. For information on how to install Adobe Reader and configure your viewing environment please see http://www.adobe.com/go/pdf_forms_configure."

Is there any workaround for this?

Jeff,

LiveCycle forms only work in the "full application" (i.e. Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.)  Browser based "add-in" versions of Adobe Reader don't have the muscle to render LC forms.

You will need to disable the Chrome Acrobat Addin, or if I.E. is your default browser you will need to:

Settings>Manage Add-ins>Select "Run without permission"> Find Adobe Reader and set to "Disabled".

If things are configured correctly, the OS will be forced to open all .pdf files in the Acrobat Application installed on the computer.

Jeff,

Going forward no browser may support the added plugins (like Adobe reader) in them.

You need to render the forms as HTML forms rather than PDF forms.

I have the same issue, the way I worked around it was to have the form as a shortcut, get the user to save it and use Reader. Not very elegant but it's a workaround until we can find another way.

Adobe has technology to render xfa based forms ( forms created using designer) as HTML forms . These forms look and feel like PDF forms and will work out of the box . Please contact your local Adobe sales person for further information

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and suggestions!

We were focusing on HTML5 forms for mobile devices only, since there are some limitations and ES4 had some problems with formatting and other things.

But, based on the lack of support for Adobe reader and the possibility that other browsers may not support it....    it looks like we may move towards HTML5 for all forms and not just when viewed on a mobile device.

Thanks,
Jeff
