Error ALC-WKS-007-040 while rendering form

I have a small process that starts with a user task whose form data
mapping points to a xfaForm variable that has a custom render service
for a very simple PDF that has got only a webservice data connection
and the fields for invoking and retrieving data from it.
Whenever I try to start the process I get the message "An error
ocurred creating the form (ALC-WKS-007-040)"

The custom render service is pretty simple and is known to be working
fine on other processes
Do you have any idea what could be wrong? It says it faile to load
template stream, but why are all those garbage characters showing up?
