Now this is some thing to start equb or edir about. No one can afford to download or update Linux in Ethiopia but if I have an internet caffe, computer school, computer related business  in addis that was exactly what I would do. I would start Linux Equb or idir and collect money from members to cover the download and other expenses and members could update from an apt repository on local network and none members could pay to do the same. 

A business that operates such a service would grow its customer base exponentially.

Well if any body uses this idea don't forget to pay royalty to me. :-)

መልካም አዲስ ዓመት ለሁላችሁም። 

እዮብ፣ መጀመሪያ የሞከርኩት ቨርችዋልቦክስ (vertualbox) ውስጥ ነበር። ብዙ ሰዎች መረብ ላይ እስቲ ሞክሩት ሞክሩት ሲሉ ነው እስቲ ልየው ያልኩት። ከዛ አንድ ቀድሞ ኤክስዑቡንቱ የነበረበት ፓርቲሽን ነበረኝ እዛ ላይ ጫንኩት። የቤት (home) ዶሴዬ ራሱን የቻለ ክፋይ ውስጥ ስላለ 2 ስርዓተ ክንውኖችን ወደ 15GB ለያንዳንዱ አድርጌ በአንዱ ላይ ተማምኜ ሌላው ላይ እሞክራለሁ። ስሞክር አንዱ ጸጥ ቢል ወደ ሁለተኛው እሄዳለሁ። እንድ ክፋይ ደግሞ ለዊንዶው 7 አለኝ። እሱን በጣም አስፈላጊ ካልሆነ ሄጄበት አላውቅም። ዲስኬ ጠቅላላ 120GB ነው።

ለማንኛውም ግን አስሊውን ይህንን ያህል ስለማሰቃየው አብዮት ቢያካሂድብኝ ብዬ አንድ የውጪ ዲስክ አለኝ በየጊዜው ሁሉንም የደህንነት ቅጂ እወስዳለሁ። ከዚህ በፊት ሁሉ ነገር ያለበት ዲስክ ጸጥ ብሎብኝ ሁሉንም አጥቻለሁ። ሁለት ጊዜ።

አንተ ጀለስ ትሆናለህ፣ እኔ ደግሞ ምን ምን የመሳሰለ የሚጥሉት አስሊና እንደ ሊኑክስ የመሳሰለ በነጻ እያለ ያገራችን ሰው ጨለማ ውስጥ ሲቀመጥ እያየሁ አንጀቴ ኩምትር ይላል።

ለማንኛውም አንድ የህቴ ልጅ ነበረችና ከዚህ ቀደም ሚንት 12 አድርጌላት ነበር። እየቆየ ሲሄድ ሁሉም ነገር ይንቀረፈፋልና ለማስተካከል ሞክረን ብዙም ስላልተሳካ እንዳዲስ ለመትከል ነበር።

የማንጃሮ ጥሩነቱ እንደ አባቱ አርች ሊኑክስ ተሽከርካሪ (rolling distribution) ስለሆነ አንዴ ከተከልከው በየጊዜው ካሻሻልከው ሁለተኛ መትከል አያስፈልግህም። በሃሳብ ደረጃ። እያሰብኩ የነበርኩት በሁለት ወይም በሶስት ወር አንድ ሲዲ ወይም ዲቪድ ማሻሻያውን አድርጌ ብልክላት ሁሉም ነገር ጥሩ ይሆናል ማለት ነው። የሚያስፈልጋትን ምን እንደሆነ አንድ ትዕዛዝ በመስጠት ማወቅ ይቻላል። apt-get update እንደማድረግ ማለት ነው። ያ መረጃ ካንድ ገጽ የማይበልጥ ቴክስት ነው። እሱን በኢሜይል ብትልክ እኔ ዳውንሎድ አድርጌ እልክላታለሁ ማለት ነው ብዬ ነው ያሰብኩት።

እስቲ ለማንኛውም ማንጃሮን ሞክሩት። በአማርኛ ለመትከል ምርጫ ይሰጣል። ግን የምታየው ፎንት ቻይንኛ ነው። ያ ማለት ቋንቋውን ከተቱት እንጂ አስፈላጊውን ሌሎች ነገሮች ለኢትዮጵያ ሎካል አልተዘጋጀም ማለት ነው። እስቲ ትንሽ ልለማመድና ኮንታክት አድርጌ እንዲያስተካክሉ እጠይቃቸዋለሁ። 

ግን ይሄ ሁሉ በላይ ያለው ነገር ሟርት ካልሆነ ነው። ሲዲ መላክ ክልክል ከሆነ ......

እኔ አሁን የተለያዩ ነገሮችን መሞከር ትንሽ የገታኝ የተረጋጋ አስሊ የሚያስፈልገው ስራ ይዤ ነው። ወደ ዊንዶውስ ላለመሄድ ስል በዚህም በዚያም እያልኩ እንደምንም ብዬ አብዛኛው ስራዬን በኡቡንቱ ላይ አድርጌዋለሁ። የአማርኛ ግቤቱ ትንጥዬ የሚጎድለው ነገር ቢኖርም ያው ፍጹም ለመሆን 10 በመቶ ገደማ ቢጎድል ነው። ስለዚህ ሌላ ነገር እሞካክራለሁ ብዬ ነገር ከማበላሽ ለጊዜው በዚሁ ልረጋጋ አልኩ።

አሁን ትንሽ ቅር ያለኝ በጣም ጎዶሎ የሆነው የፕሮግራሚን ክህሎቴን እንደልብ የማሻሽልበት እና በሊኑክስ ላይ የምለማመድበት ጊዜና ሁኔታ ትንሽ አልተመቻቸልኝም። ተርሚናል ውስጥ ገብቼ ውስብስብ ትዕዛዞችን ሞነጫጭሬና ስክሪፖቶችን አስሂጄ በአስሊዬ ላይ ጉድ መስራት እንዴት እመኛለሁ መሰለህ :-)።

የእህትህ ልጅ በተመለከተ፣ ያው በኢሜይል ብትልክላት የምታወርደው ፋይሎች መጠን አይበዛባትም ወይ? በይነመረብ ማግኘት የምትችል ከሆነ አንደኛዋ ከአስሊዋ ሆና ዝማኔውን ብታዝ አይሻላትም? ሌላ እጅ አዙር ከምትሄድ ነገርዬውን በአንድ ትዕዛዝ ብትጨርሰው አይሻልም?

የዕቁቡን ኃሳብ እስማማበታለሁ ። ከዕቁቡ የሚገኘው ገቢ ግን አንድ መጠነኛ አስሊ የሚገዛ ቢሆን ጥሩ ነው ። አሁን በ 300 ብር ከተስማማን ለምሳሌ ይህ ስዕሉ ላይ ያለውን ላብቶብ እዚህ $250 ዶላር (5000 ብር) ያወጣል ። ASUS X551MA 15.6 Inch Laptop (Intel Celeron, 4 GB, 500GB HDD, Black) ይባላል ። 

5000 ብር ለመሰብሰብ 17 ዕቁብተኛ ያስፈልገናል ። ያን ያህል ሰው የምናገኝ ይመስልሃል?

ዋናው እዮብ ያነሳውን ችግር ለመቅረፍ ነው። እዮብ እንግዲህ ባለሙያ ሆኖ ይህ ዓይነት ችግር ካጋጠመው ጀማሪው ስንቱ ነው ይህንን አጥቶ ችሎታውን ሳያዳብር የሚቀር።

ሌላው ደግሞ በአንድ በሁለት ሰው ይጀመራል እንጂ በዛው አይቀርም። ምን ይታወቃል? ሺም ሁለት ሺህ ሰውም ሊገኝ ይችላል። እያደር።

Thank you Tegene. I will suggest this to my librarian sister in Bench Maji, way to the south west. I think it is a good idea, if people can take time to read. I would have been mad during those hard times in Europe and America, if I wasn't able to read in the big libraries.

Many things have been mentioned her but i like to stick to the topic?
I have tried Manjaro for some hours before i started Dabian Jessie xfce. Manjaro is , good and clean. It is a matter of taste and preferences to anyone.  And which distros is best suited to tasks one need to execute. 

I prefer Debian. From my little experience as a user with Linux, it is time for me to continue using the original Debian in order to learn something from it, fixing what i need and can instead of using a mimic. The other reason is that painted Debian like Ubuntu is not that stable as they claim to be. I have experienced that. The privacy and thinking for money is also an issue with Ubuntu. I do not know how they manage with GNU RULES. Whether flavours  from Arch or Debian etc, in my opinion, time to change. Again it is up to anyone what he likes, just to show my opinion and we all know those flavours have revolutionised the use of Linux. That is a god thing. At the same time the main distros are also much better.

I think you are right for most part. the only reason people choose to take the ubuntu and then the mint road or from Arch to manjaro is the none free programs that we need to run for everyday use. Such as the codecs and some propitiatory drivers. Of course you can take Debian and add them yourself. But others want them out of the box.

As you may have noticed my main interest is to bring Linux to todays windows users. For those who come from windows world Debians 99.999% up time is not very much interesting. But whether their video collection and MP3 stash plays out of the box for 3 hours before it crashes is.Once they start there if they have the drive why stop at debian. They can compile their own OS from the source.

My focus especially is those users and computer who are still running the defunct windows XP in Ethiopia. Almost every house hold I visited and most of the schools and Internet caffes run XP. This people have no resource to upgrade to another windows version. Their only option is Linux. Linux that has the functionality they are used to and has as little learning curve as possible.

.Now after using for a few days manjaro I start seeing some glitches. The arch documentation is one of the best in Linux and I am sure there is a solution for most things. But I am considering installing mint-xfce. cynamon is a bit to heavy.

I was hopping Manjaro would be the answer. And it could be for me because I really like the whole Arch design philosophy. Installing once and for ever. But I think I was a bit too optimist. So for now what I want is a system that runs from 2 to 5 years and very light.that would be an ideal Os for most people at home. I have not run for a very long time an xfce version for a long time. But that is what I will do and see.

Yes, i saw your interest Tegegne. I was also thinking about it what you meant, didn't say much. I think a system that works 2 - 5 years is a good choice, especially when the computers are owned by schools, internet cafes etc. It is time consuming and not necessary having a rolling distro in school, internet cafe etc.  They do must not need the latest software rather stable, as they serve people and run businesses. It is a hassle having to maintain several computers. 

"Installing once and for ever", i don't think is stable? Moreover one need to have a decent cleanups and upgrade at a certain time.  That's normal and healthy, but again it is up to ever user.

As for in Ethiopia and Linux, i think the best tool we have now is giving a good information to those in need. If we have right addresses from any school, or owner of internet cafe, we can manage giving them the information they can use and if they want it. It is important to have a good communication channel for this to happen.  It is nice Tegegne you want to test to find out which is older computers friendly Linux . Cheers.

Can we split this thread. It is getting very long and running in a different directions. Can one of you create another thread for the runner to go separately. I see 25 items here. 

While I am at it, It is good to see you being vigorous as usual. So is Manjaro the call of the day or what. This rapid distro build is calling to our demise, but without it we can't produce one big distro like windows, because we are not one government. It is is what killed the Greece, almost. Won't you want to be  stable for clients to get in and be familiar?

 Else it will be Billy the Kid shoot out all the time. That is American for you.... haha:)

I think it is okay if the topic is long as long as we are not far away from the topic. I understand that Linux Mint XFCE and Manjaro etc was mentioned. Then discussing about them and how they best possible suites to old computer to a different users makes the topic long. I think this just shows we are in a way involved. //FT
