Library Box as the library's main wifi router?

Forgive me if this is posted somewhere else or is an obvious question. I followed and set up a Library Box in the early days before v2.0, and haven't used the new interface and other features. I was wondering if the current Library Box setup could be used both as a file server and actual wifi router?

The reason I ask this is I would like to find a wifi router for libraries that is easy to interface with. This would be for two reasons mainly, easy troubleshooting (restarting a updating when things go wrong) and to gather basic anonymous usage statistics.

If it does not have this feature, is it something that is worth developing? Or are there any other solutions out there? I know that most decent routers have these features in some respect, but the interface would need to be a friendly GUI that a non/low tech librarian could easily use.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
with

> actual wifi router

do you mean a router providing internet to the clients? If yes, that is not possible so easy. 8theoretically possible... but needs some playing around)

usage statistics (vistor & download) : available since 2.0
easily configurable webinterface : available since 2.0
multi language support: since 2.1

best regards
Matthias

As Matthias said, that's not really a feature we've worked on. If you're interested in easy, out of the box wifi routers, there are plenty of choices....more or less, all have pretty decent interfaces at this point.

Thanks for the replies.

Mathias: Yes I meant a wifi router provided internet connectivity. Could the Library Box be developed to be both? That is once connected to the actual network you could also navigate to the library box itself? So it is theoretically possible, but not easy to do?

Jason: Can you recommend a particular model of router that would service small and medium sized libraries and has a good interface? I'm thinking of a GUI that is really basic and intuitive, so even the a technophobic staff member could be walked through resetting it or gathering usage stats. Most I have seen (except Apple's Airport routers) have multiple pages with technical information that most people know nothing about.

Yes it is technically possible, but it destroys the whole "redirect all" concept. You have to change several files (/etc/piratebox.conf , /opt/piratebox/conf ... ) to make it happen... But I need to test it for myself to give you a any advice far then that,...
