Loaded LB ver 2.1 with appropriate openwrt onto two MR3020's...no ssid.  Any thoughts?  Probably should have checked the routers prior to modifying to see if they produced a wifi signal.  Have the same problem with 1 of 3 MR3040.
Thanx...Richard.

USB Stick formatted in MBR (not GPT) mode with FAT32 ?
All the same USB Stick?
Install log on the USB Stick?
If you connect via ethernet, what do you see in /dev/sda* ?

Cheap-o 8gb usb drives off of eBay do not seem to work.  Brand name usb drives work.

I formatted the usb drive with Win 7 fat32...I presume it is MBR and not GUID.

The usb drive that did not work with mr3020's and one of three mr3040's, worked in another mr3040.

I can load openwrt off of the usb drive plugged into the mr3020...using telnet.  The usb drive contains 1) openwrt and 2) install folder...for the mr3020.

I will check the install log on the USB stick and in telnet lookk in the /dev/sda folder tonight.

copy over a new instance of the install directory to the USB stick, while the box is offline. Then put the USB back and power it on... then the installation should be triggered again

ok...I copied over a new instance of the install directory to the usb stick, while the box is offline and then put the usb stick back in and powered on the mr3020.  No change.  I do have the tech summary of the mr3020 with ver 2.1 of librarybox installed.  I have annotated several areas...one in the wireless section...where it looks like the wifi is turned off.  The file is attached.
Thanx.

OK, this is very strange.
The install log is basically saying:

 - hey extroot is not initialized, initializing -> OK
 - Oh, I need to install packages, Installing -> OK
 - Now, let's do the needed reboot
 - hey extroot is not initialized, initializing -> OK
 - Oh no packages to install, done

o.O
Can you start with a fresh reflash please, remove all files from the USB stick and add a new copy of the Install folder to the USB stick?
I guess the changes on the root filesystem are not preserved correctly... this sometimes happen :-( (it acts like read only, but it isn't flagged on the OS like this.. sometimes cosmic rays interfere ;) )

Success!!

mr3040 was fixed by:

editing the etc/config/wireless file using telnet...

root@OpenWrt:/# cat /etc/config/wireless
config wifi-device  radio0
        option type     mac80211
        option channel  11
        option hwmode   11ng
        option macaddr  ec:08:6b:b3:32:36
        option htmode   HT20
        list ht_capab   SHORT-GI-20
        list ht_capab   SHORT-GI-40
        list ht_capab   RX-STBC1
        list ht_capab   DSSS_CCK-40
        # REMOVE THIS LINE TO ENABLE WIFI:
        option disabled 1

Changed the "option disabled 1" line to "option disabled 0" to turn wifi back on.

Downloaded fresh openwrt and LibraryBox Install s/w, then reflashed the router using telnet

/etc/init.d/boot start
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
cd /mnt/
mtd -r write <openwrt for my router> firmware

It worked  :)

It became evident (and I believe that it is stated in the notes regarding reprogramming these routers through telnet...(but I had overlooked it) that when reprogramming the mr3040 and mr3020...the usb drive should have only the openwrt file.  When the reboot is finished...pull the usb drive and wipe off any added files with the exception of openwrt.  Then load the LibraryBox 'Install' folder, reinsert the usb drive into the mr3040 or mr3020 and reboot.

When I had both 'openwrt' and 'install folder' on the usb drive...reprogramming the router resulted, I believe, in residual files from the JFFS2 overlay file system being written to the usb drive that I think messed up (contaminated) the 'install' part of the process.  FWIW.

The mr3020's were more tricky.

Through telnet I had created a password.  Once that happened I could no longer connect via telnet...only ssh.  Connecting through ssh give me limited function (I think it dropped me into busybox mode).

So I performed

mount_root
rm -r /overlay/*

to get rid of the JFFS2 file overlay system.  The router then was rebooted.  Once that was done, I could then connect to the router with telnet which gave me more commands.

Wifi was turned back on in the etc/config/wireless file using the built-in Vi editor, as noted above.

The router was reprogrammed with a fresh download of openwrt...then the usb stick was pulled, any files other than openwrt were removed, the LB install folder was then added to the usb stick, the usb stick put back into the router and the router restarted.  Worked great  :)

Thanx so much for your help.  It was very much appreciated!  Being able to read about problem solving by others was also helpful.

Regards...Richard in Grants Pass, Oregon
