Hi all
I remember reading a conversation, I presume on this list, where someone described a Leo workflow with a special node at the top of their outline (named specially IIRC) and some scripts/key-bindings to make navigating to that node, entering some text, and then presumably returning to their previous position, very quick and easy.

I am looking for this but can't find the thread. Does it ring bells with anyone?

Not sure what specific functionality you're referring to but I think @chapter nodes would be a good option.

I have this shortcut defined:
chapter-select ! tree        = z

The nice thing about chapters is that they save your view state within the chapter.

So you could have a minimum of two toplevel @chapter nodes maybe:
  • @chapter Inbox
    • My Note 1
    • My Note 2
  • @chapter Work
    • My fancy work
      • Part 1 of fancy work
      • Part 2 of fancy work
And when you flip back and forth between chapters you will be transported back to where you previously left off when you left the chapter. Unfortunately I don't think your position is saved when you close an outline. And actually you don't even need @chapter work if you don't want, since there is an inherent main chapter which is non-chapter view of the tree. In both cases you could use the chapter-next to quickly flip between your chapters.

I'm sure there are 10 other ways to do it, but that is how I would do it.

It may have been about bookmarks commands.

Possibly, but that doesn't really have the back and forth action that's
being described. It's not ringing any clear bells for me, although
not too hard to implement.

Found it - and it has a post from Terry with his 'x'  command ;-). Looks like the code is now in scripts.leo as well. The 'back and forth' bit probably isn't there, that can be my homework.

I'd post a link but I am using google groups and that probably won't help anyone. It's a thread "GTD checkin messages and workflow" from 09/11/2014.

Thanks
