Tab and other errors in @auto read

I know there's been a lot of work on the @auto read code lately. Just today I got the following long list errors from 3 @auto files (attached file with log report). I can send the original files if necessary.

Rob and I have corresponded privately.  To summarize publicly:

1. There are real problems with the html importer.  These problem have existed since the rewrite of the html importer last year.  They may have come to light only now because the new caching scheme caused Leo to re-import the @auto files.

2. A rethink/rewrite of (part of) the html importer is needed to handle so-called empty html elements. I'll attempt a fix today.
