Hello folks!

I just wanted to let you know about an awesome conference that is coming up at NYU Skirball Center on October 11-13. The Drones and Aerial Robotics Conference (DARC) is the first-ever massive multi-disciplinary conference about aerial robotics, with a focus on civilian applications.

They’ve got a stellar speaker list that includes influential roboticists and CEOs, along with some of the best and brightest academic and legal minds on the subject. It’s a packed three-day program, all aimed towards breaking down the big questions and generating constructive output.

DARC will also have a technical show, with short-form live and video demonstrations, featuring work from startups, researchers, and the DIY/hobbyist sector.

 Their announcement is copied below.

It should be a good time! Hope to see you on Friday at the Issue Spotting Happy Hour and at DARC!

Best,
Jen

On October 11-13, the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy at NYU School of Law, in partnership with Yale ISPPrinceton CITP, and the MacArthur Foundation, will be hosting the Drones & Aerial Robotics Conference.

DARC is the first-of-its-kind, massively multi-disciplinary event examining civilian drones and their impact on society.  The conference schedulefeatures an exciting lineup of speakers from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.  The agenda includes four keynotes and over 20 lightning talks exploring the drone phenomenon from myriad perspectives, including talks from Dr. Vijay Kumar (UPenn GRASP Labs; White House OSTP director for robotics and cyber physical systems), Missy Cummings (former Navy fighter pilot and director of the MIT Humans and Automation Lab), Daniel Suarez (author of Kill Decision), Michael Toscano (President and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International), Chris Anderson (founder of 3D Robotics), Henri Seydoux (founder of Parrot SA), Ryan Calo (University of Washington School of Law), Catherine Crump (ACLU), Stuart Banner (UCLA School of Law), Ed Waggoner (NASA), and Robbie Hood (NOAA), to name just a few.

DARC also features over 20 workshops, working groups, and roundtables covering a broad range of topics, ensuring something for everyone, but also emphasizing the interdisciplinary focus of the conference: aerospace engineers will help inform legal conversations; legal experts and policy advocates will experience drone technology first-hand; government officials will be exposed to the larger cultural conversations occurring around the technology they are tasked with regulating.

Register now for DARC at droneconference.org/register.  Registration includes admission to all conference speakers, panels, workshops, and special events, including a hack day sponsored by Parrot, and the AfterDARC drone demo show.  Student tickets are only $79, however, DARC is also offering event scholarships for students willing to volunteer during the conference.  Interested students may email Con...@droneconference.org for more information.

For NON-STUDENT registrants, we're offering a special promotional code that entitles you to a 30% discount off the Individual-level ticket price. Enter DARCFRIEND30 at registration to take advantage of the discount. This offer ends Oct. 8th so register now!
