Packhorse Event 007: Virtual Worlds: From the Macrocosm to the Microcosm.

Wednesday 18th March 2014 6.00 – 8.00, The Packhorse Pub, Woodhouse Lane

The Superposition is a loose affiliation of Artists Scientists and Makers who share an interest in interdisciplinary research, technology, art and the use of materials and process. We hold events throughout the year and host an annual workshop/ studio/ laboratory in September that acts as a catalyst for making and collaboration.

This year’s program starts with a bang, firstly with an evening event of talks held at The Packhorse Pub, Woodhouse lane, on Wednesday 18th March, from 6pm  , admission is free.  Secondly to help Leeds Festival of Science celebrate it's 10th birthday we will also be showing our Superposition wares at the Science Ceilidh, Comedy Show and Spoken Word Event on Thursday 19th March. Tickets £7

With the theme of Virtual Worlds the speakers at this Packhorse event on are:

Dr Sue Bowler, editor of the Royal Astronomical Society magazine, and member of the School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds. Sue's talk will be about Earth-like planets, how they evolved and what they are like.

Liam Jefferies is a designer, curator, researcher and educator that works predominantly the North East. Liam’s current practice and research revolves around the emerging creative and curatorial opportunities provided by Augmented Reality. Exploring whether the innovative use of Augmented Reality within a gallery setting enables a questioning of the fundamental role of audience and space and helps instigate a move towards ‘open systems’.

Becs Andrews, an artist and stage designer will talk about Transmission an interactive installation and contemporary dance piece that explores how infectious networks (disease, memes) change at a molecular level and how this can have global consequences.
