It has been suggested that we should try to move in to the Hackspace 3 on the weekend of October 15th - 16th.
Any objections/thoughts?

Obviously this means packing up as much of the current space as possible beforehand (probably in the week before), so please bring in any large boxes you can spare between now and then. Also PLEASE make it down on that weekend as it will be hard work whatever happens, but the more people involved the easier it will be. After all this is for your direct benefit.
More on this as the date approaches...

In the meantime there are a few jobs still outstanding at the new space. To make it as efficient as possible we should make a list and mark which ones are time critical (can't do B till A is done...)

My initial thoughts (please add anything I've missed):
  • Screed floor
  • Finish trunking and wiring
  • Add skirting
  • Hide/fix craft area ceiling
  • Clean back hall and toilet carpets
  • (Buy and) Put down carpet tiles
  • (Collect and) Ceiling tiles
  • Sand and varnish vestibule (front porch area)
  • (Buy and) Install workshop lighting
  • (Buy and) Install other lighting
  • Finish kitchen floor
  • Install kitchen electrics
  • Build and plumb kitchen
  • Build door frames
  • Hang doors

So, we need to look at what needs buying and get that done so they can be there ready to be installed. But first we need to agree and decide on:

  • Workshop lighting
  • Other areas lighting
  • Carpet colour (H or no H?)

As far as I understand we will be van-ing most of the heavy/awkward stuff.  However some of the smaller items can be moved in cars or on foot. I'll volunteer to move anything that'll fit so we can minimise van rental time, and of course my few things.

We should look through the back area and decide what needs to be kept and moved to newspace - and what will be scrapped.  A similar consolidation should be done for the rack and the members storage (ex-members storage needs to be removed or donated for general usage)

In regards to the members storage, perhaps the directors could send out a mess e-mail to members (active or otherwise) that they have on record informing them of the potential move and to "shift their stuff, else <x> will happen". As far as I am aware not all members are subscribed to the mailing list so may miss out on this big situation happening.

Maybe i”ve misunderstood something but I was under the impression that subscribing to the mailing list is a condition of membership. However, of course, there may be circumstances where a member is subscribed but doesn't receive the emails...

It’s quite a surprise to me that anyone gets to keep their storage after their membership ceases as this seriously disadvantages new members.
If we’re aiming for a given number of members then we should have storage for at least that number. It would then be for the directors to decide if former members might be given the opportunity to rent storage for a while after their membership ends, if space permits, but this would be for a limited period only and the storage should be reclaimed at the end of the time.

It would be a matter of courtesy in case anyone has left anything.

Also, subscription to this mailing list has not been enforced.

I'm pretty sure the space holds no responsibility for ex-member stuff.   An email should be a courtesy but not much more.

(Frankly, I'm not even sure we have responsibility for actual-factual member stuff - it is all of course "at your risk" storage!)
