'Art and Research' is an event questioning:

What is research in the broadest sense?

What are the current research areas and what's the impact of them?

How do we use research to support artists?

How can Leeds utilise some international research outcomes?

How do we share research genuinely and productively?

What are the gaps?

Lloyd&Wilson - Working together since 2012, artists Toby Lloyd and Andrew Wilson build environments that encourage others to communicate and collaborate with one another in order to open up shared and conflicting experiences of everyday life. In January 2015, Lloyd&Wilson relocated from Newcastle upon Tyne to be the first occupants of Artist House 45; a long term live/work artist residency within a traditional two bedroom, back to back home in Beeston, South Leeds.

Patrick Studios - East Street Arts was founded by Karen Watson and Jon Wakeman in 1993. It took reference and inspiration from the history and developments within the artist-led movement. Studios were developed alongside professional support programmes for artists. In 2000, East Street Arts moved to Patrick Studios, the site of St. Patrick’s Social Club – a former boxing club on St.Mary’s Lane in Mabgate. With a capital grant, it renovated the building with Leeds architects Baumann Lyons to create 34 custom designed artists studios and facilities. It has become a place for artists who endeavour to be professional in their chosen discipline and fosters a culture where by new relationships and collaborations are established and careers can flourish. The Project Space hosts a range of events and residencies aimed at offering artists opportunities to generate new ideas and develop new work; and audiences’ opportunities to meet artists and engage with work in progress.
