Hi,

This may seem like a slightly strange request but I came across your group and I was wondering if somebody has the knowledge and would be able to help me. I'm doing a PhD at the University of Leeds in water repellency of fabrics. I'm hoping to build a platform on which a fabric sample can be placed and the water droplet observed. A microscope would take an image of the droplet for external contact angle analysis and the platform would tilt to measure the tilt angle, using a 0.9 deg stepper motor. It's been suggested that I use a potentiometer for this. I've got diagrams and notes - it's just quite hard to explain fully in an email.

Basically, my supervisor was meant to help but I've been waiting seven months. I'm in my final year and running out of time. I know very little about electronics and coding but was wondering if there were any groups in Leeds who could help - this is where I came across the Hack Space website.

I would be eternally grateful and can supply baked items. If the platform can be constructed and data comes out of it, then the development of the test will be written in a publishable journal article (all names credited).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Philippa

Hi Phillipa,

Sounds interesting and no not the strangest request for help we have had. If no one else better suited steps forward then I should be able to lend a hand and I am easily tempted by baked goods:) . Are you free Tuesday evening to come to our open evening to discuss it and show your diagrams and notes?
