Multiple Columns for Single Legend (R Leaflet)

I am using R leaflet, and would like to make legends with as many as fifty factors. The problem is that by default Leaflet builds legends of a single column, and this column extends outside of panel, thus is unreadable. Is there an option to split a single legend into two columns?

Same here, would like to use 2 columns for 2 color palettes (or better yet two horizontal color palettes).
