Hello guys !  first of all thanks for everything you're doing for supporting the LIDAR community !!
I'm new to LIDAR and I wanted to use them for an art project in a video.
the problem is tho after plenty of research online I found some resoruces where I can download LIDAR from but have NO RGB color channels.
Now, I wanted to ask you

do you know any resources I can download colored LIDAR from ?
do you also know of an easy way to merge the RGB color into the LIDAR in a simple way ? I know your tool lascolor is perfect for that but  I don't have an ortophoto, I have just an aerial image taken from google maps...

anything will be super helpful

Thanks !

Hi Matteo,

I invite you to look into the LIDAR datasets we have collected at NEON (http://www.neonscience.org/data-resources/get-data/airborne-data). All of our LIDAR datasets have been colorized with RGB imagery (using lascolor) and are freely available. We primarily collect data over natural landscapes if that is what you are interested in for your art project. We can deliver the data electronically and it will come in LAZ format. If you are interested you can request the data here:

http://www.neonscience.org/request-airborne-data

The original orthophotos are also available.

Hello Matteo,

We have quite a bit of Lidar with RGB which may be useful for your art work - we have been doing some "LidArt" ourselves (have a look at www.airborneresearch.org.au > Image Gallery). Is there any specific scenery or topic you would be especially interestd in ? Most of our lidar is from nature rather than urban areas.

Ciao, Jorg.

Hi Matteo,
One of the NEON datasets described by Tristan can be accessed through OpenTopography here: http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/lidarDataset?opentopoID=OTLAS.092015.32611.1

Off the top of my head, other datasets in OT that have RGB information include:
- The three PG&E central coast of CA datasets: http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/datasets?search=PG%26E

On our to do list is to make RGB a searchable attribute so it is easier to find datasets that meet this requirement. Thanks,

-Chris

Hey Chris,
Do you know if this feature is still in the works? it would be very useful I think.

Or perhaps there's a way of working out which datasets contain RGB?

Cheers,
Joe
