Two of the top movies of 2016, "Moonlight" and "Loving" open this week
at the Fox Theater in Laramie.

Loving opens Thursday, December 8 and Moonlight opens Friday, December 9.

From "Election" -- Tracy Flick (played by Reese Witherspoon):

“You might think it upset me that Paul Metzler had decided to run
against me but nothing could be further from the truth. He was no
competition for me; it was like apples and oranges. I had to work a
little harder, that’s all, see I believe in the voters; they understand
that elections aren’t just popularity contests, they know this country
was built by people just like me who work very hard and don’t have
everything handed to them on a silver spoon.”

Greetings fellow film fans:

If you haven't seen "Manchester by the Sea" yet (a probable Best Picture
Oscar nominee this year) you still have time to catch it before it
leaves town this week. The last day to see it at the Fox Theater is
Thursday, January 12.

The film "Hidden Figures," about the unsung women math heroes of the
early space program in the 1960s, opens Friday, January 13, at the Fox
Theater in Laramie. This is one of the films starring black actors,
along with "Fences" that presenters at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday
got wrong when they twice called it "Hidden Fences." I guess they had
not seen either film. All the Golden Globe voters saw this year was "La
La Land" it appears.

Another good film opens Thursday, January 12 at the Fox, "Patriots Day",
starring Mark Wahlberg, a drama about the 2013 terrorist bombings in Boston.

On Sunday, January 15, "Illégal" (2010 - Belgium, Luxembourg, France)
plays at 7 p.m. at the Albany County Public Library, Eighth and Grand.
Admission and snacks are free.

"Illégal" is the second film in the Sundries of the World winter-spring
film series. This intense drama follows a former Russian teacher living
illegally in Belgium who is captured and is fighting against a brutal
system trying to deport her. This film won seven international film
awards including the SACD (Directors' Fortnight) Prize at the 2010
Cannes Film Festival. Rated PG-13, running time 90 minutes, languages,
French, English and Russian.

tonight (Wednesday, January 18) at 7 p.m. at the Fox Theater. This is

One of the best movies in recent years, the multi-award-winning "Son of
Saul" (2015) plays on Sunday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at the Albany County
Public Library. Free admission and snacks.

Son of Saul -- In the horror of 1944 Auschwitz, a prisoner forced to
burn the corpses of his own people finds moral purpose in a dangerous
attempt to properly bury the body of a boy he takes to be his son. This
film won many awards, including both the Oscar and Golden Globe awards
for best foreign film. Rated R, running time one hour and 47 minutes.
