See how these Buddhist Monks and the lay people climb the ladder to
decorate the golden pinnacle ("Ran Kotha") studded with precious
stones.

It is a very courageous climb.

They are performing a typical “high tech/low tech” operation with
cordless power drills, cameras, bamboo ladders and scaffolding.
Amazing to see the Buddhist monks climbing, clad in their robes!

The filming was done by them. The shot from the top overlooking at the
devotees is great! They appear as if sitting on the body of the dome
at the bottom (they are seeking shade from the shadow of the stupa).
Super camera work!

Note the lightning conductor surrounding the pinnacle.

Ruwanweli Seya is a stupa in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, considered a
marvel for its architectural qualities and sacred to many Buddhists.
It was built by King Dutugemunu (161 BC - 137 BC) who became the
Emperor of Sri Lanka after a war in which the Tamil King Elara of
India was defeated.

This stupa is one of the world's tallest monuments, standing at 300 ft
(92 m) with a diameter of 300 ft (92 m) and a circumference of 950 ft
(290 m).
