Dear Permaculturists,

In my quest to better understand the patterns in nature and how they relate to designing sustainable human environs, I have come across a fascinating author and philosopher, Rupert Sheldrake.  I would like to start a collective discussion amongst members of the KPC.  Please take 20 minutes to view this Rupert's TEDx talk on "The Science Delusion BANNED TED TALK",
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKHUaNAxsTg

Please comment and share your thoughts.  What do you think of the theory of morphic resonance?
This is a challenge that may affect you world view.

Thanks,

Steve Moring

Hi all,

With the goal to further discussion, Steve, with your chemistry background in mind, what are your thoughts on this video?

I found the talk interesting. It reminds me of the theory put forth by Lev Shestov in his book Athens and Jerusalem...Basically his theory is that reason itself limits the ability to think beyond Logical syllogisms and anything that violates a law of logic or reason is false...but he states logic is created by humans as a way to order thought and that they are not absolute rules...much the same way Sheldrake discusses science as a dogma that cannot be changed we limit our ability to actually explore alternative modes of thought...so I say yes correct we try to to bring order to the world by science It gives us a feeling of comfort and security...it will take alternative thinkers to change that but once alternative thought becomes mainstream it becomes yes you guessed it...dogma...look forward to hear what others have to say

Wow, surprised to see a Sheldrake reference here..kind of... everything is related and connected in ways that physical science can't fully explain according to Sheldrake. My knowledge of permaculture is admittedly limited; however, the idea of all components of farm/garden having a symbiotic relationship is what i find most appealing with permaculture. Sheldrake's theories promote the idea of interconnectedness and unity, which seems to fit right in with permaculture. His work on morphic resonance is really similar to the Jungian collective unconscious in my opinion, if you enjoyed this video look into his explanation of the 100th monkey effect - crazy stuff. If you want some really out there philosophies and totally entertaining talks look into his friend who he made reference to in the video - Terrence McKenna.
