This is an intro class for the following workshop, covering Food Not Lawns principles, permaculture design, and the goals of the host of the workshop. The teachers will be: Michael Almon of Forest Floor Permaculture on "Designing for Urban Food Growing", Steve Mann of Prairie EcoSystems Management on "Lawn Eradication 101", and Steve Moring of Kaw Permaculture Inc. on "Urban Scale Plants, Guilds, and Succession". The workshop host will explain her goals for her front yard garden, and her expectations for the following week's workshop there. This suburban lawn eradication workshop will be the first in a series of Lawrence Food Not Lawns hands-on workshops, to help people get their front yard food garden started. This one day crop mob will have multiple outcomes. It will bring together many hands to help the homeowner eradicate turf grass and jump start her front yard food garden. It will be an opportunity for workshop participants to learn how to do it. It will begin a cycle of mutual aid workshops at the homes of any participants who care to do similar. And it will be a community demonstration of the potential for transforming acres of lawngrass wasteland into productive food gardens. Lawrence Food Not Lawns, which is a program of Sustainability Action, hosted Heather Flores last year to launch of our local chapter. Heather and Tobias Policha co-founded the original Food Not Lawns in 1999, and she has since written a book by the same name - Food Not Lawns: by Heather Flores.

Attached is a flyer for the November Lawn Eradication class and workshop being taught by Lawrence Food Not Lawns. The flyer can guide you to the Eventbrite registration site, either through a tinyurl or a QR code.
You can take either one or the other, class or workshop, or both, as you wish. We do ask that you register. The class has a $15 suggested fee, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Were asking $15 or what you can afford for the November 11th presentation. The hands on lawn eradication is a party(something to celebrate). Bring something for the potluck after the lawn be gone. Teachers are volunteering. Proceeds go to Lawrence Food Not Lawns and I believe they are tax deductible. Lawrence Food Not Lawns is a project of Sustainability Action Network.
