I created form, saved it and now I wanted to open it again but nothing is happening, neither with the online, nor with the offline version of KoBo.. it is stuck showing "loading".
Does anyone know why?

Best and thanks in advance,
Larissa

Hi Larissa,
I was able to open your form (which you had sent me separately) in KoBoForm without problems. I opened it directly from the XML file, by copy-pasting the code, and from the browser.

Could you please send us more details on the following:
- Which browser do you use?
- How are you trying to open the form (Open from file, Load from browser, or by copy-pasting into Load from text)?
- With "loading", do you mean the 'Please wait while KoBoForm loads' message that briefly shows when you open the formbuilder? Or a different message that shows after you clicked Open?

The Load from text option should always work. Please let us if you've tried this option and what exactly happened in case it didn't work.

If you are using the offline version of KoBoForm, please note that it doesn't work in Chrome. If you want to use the Open from file option, you need to make changes to your Java installation

Thanks so much, Tino!

If you were able to open it, there must be something wrong with my settings. I will double check this.
I can open the file now with FireFox and Internet Explorer.

But still..
If I edit the file using Internet Explorer, then save (to file) and drag it on my phone, I cannot open it on the phone and there appears an error message on the phone ("org.javarosa.xform.parse.XFormParseException: XML Syntax Error at Line : 1, Column 340!").

If I edit the file using FireFox the changes won't be saved (there appears the saving message which I have attached) and I can only see the survey that I created before (the one I tried to apply the changes on).
The only way I can think of how to add changes is to type in the whole questionnaire again, but that might take a long time.. and I am sure there is just something wrong in what I am doing.

I set the security setting to "Low" with both browsers, included the kobo-form website to te trusted sites and have the latest version of Java installed.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.
We will do a trial tomorrow and I very much hope that I can get it working by then.
If you can think of anything that could help, I would be very happy if you could let me know.

Thanks a lot in advance and for all your past help!

The strange thing is that if I ...

- change anything in the form
- "view form text"
- copy
- paste it into notepad
- safe it as *.xml
- drag into the "odk"-folder -> "forms" on my phone and
- open it with KoBo Collect app

... I can open the file on the phone but the changes are not made...

Any idea why that is?

Thanks
Larissa

I could go around it now by editing the form in the text file in notepad..

If you have any idea why it does not work normally, I would be very happy if you could let me know.
Thanks again for all your help and support, that's great!

Best regards
Larissa

Tino,
I am also encountering issues with loading a form into KoboForm.  I followed your instructions to use the Load from Text option.  I copied the text from an XML file that I had created using ODK Build, pasted it into the XForm Source window, and clicked the Open Pasted Text button.  A window appeared saying "Error: null".  The same error message appeared when online in Firefox and Chrome, and when using Firefox with the offline version.  Am I missing a step in the process, or is the Load from Text option not compatible with XML created using ODK Build?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Thea

Hi Thea, would you mind sharing the form so that we can identify the issue? There should be no problem with compatibility.

Best,

Patrick

Patrick,
Attached is the xml form I tried to open. Are you able to load it into KoboForm?
Thanks,
Thea

Hi Thea – not yet, but we will get that sorted out! Tino, can you have a look?

Hi Thea,
I had a look at your form and figured out what was wrong. The question structure_id had a constraint attached to it that KoBoForm couldn't interpret, presumably because it's inside a repeat group. We don't support repeats and groups in this version of KoBoForm, although it is going to be fully supported in our completely redone KoBoForm, to be released this summer.

I'm attaching your form without the offending constraint, which now imports into KF. However, because groups are not yet supported in this version, all your questions that are within groups will appear twice, and some of the attributes of these grouped questions are not imported properly. So, unless you can use your form without groups or repeats, it won't be possible to import into and modify with KoBoForm at this point unfortunately.

Let us know if you have any other questions!
Tino
