Try uninstalling kmotion, completely remove the kmotion directory and re-install,

there seems to be a bug in the linux kernal when it creates FIFO's (which kmotion uses), re-installing usually sorts it

Hi there, guys!
I could use your help. I have a Foscam clone camera and set up motion using camera_url --> http://user:pass@IP_of_Camera:81/videostream.cgi
Motion works as expected, it takes snapshots every minute and creates jpg and avis on movement.
I wanted to use kmotion and downloaded and installed it.(I used install.py on ubuntu 12.04 LTS)
I open web interface, enter the config page and I want to add the camera.
I select camera 1, device Network Cam, and in URL I enter "http://user:pass@IP_of_Camera:81/videostream.cgi"(the link that works normally in motion). I also add a distinctive name
Then hitting apply results to no feed loading in the camera window inside kmotion. Additionally, reloading the page shows that actually no setting has been saved at all..
What am I doing wrong???

Hello, Dave and thanks for your support. Unfortunately no joy
What I did (in case I got something wrong): I had kmotion gz in /tm , extracted it and run it from there.
I stopped it using kmotion stop
Run uninstall.py
Removed the extracted directory
Extracted again and followed the same process (install.py - all OK - then access webui and no connection to camera and if I logout and then again login nothing has been saved)
I will try with an older kmotion version and see what happens...

Have you installed all the dependencies listed when you run the install script ?

OK, just gave it a shot... Tried to install in the home directory of the user who is going to run kmotion, using sudo. No luck.. Tried to install in the home directory of the user who is going to run kmotion, but this time as root ... Nothing again... I can't understand... There must be something I am doing wrong for sure...
As mentioned before kmotion web interface opens. I enter the following in the camera settings: http://user:pass...@192.168.1.60:81/videostream.cgi. I enter no user or pass since they are passed in the url (even if i do it still does not work..
This specific url returns the videostream from my camera, also as mentioned before works with motion without problems.
A thing I noticed is that not even the server load button works...It stays at "Please wait - Downloading server data."

Double-posting to update...
It started working:
After some restarting kmotion/motion it began to work..
Also copied my motion.conf to core/motion_conf/ to keep the same behavior as I had with motion (in terms of recording etc..)
The only thing that troubles me is that when I run kmotion start I get after a while:
motion(12327): Operation not permitted. I tried to change the permissions of usr/bin/motion, but still the same
I finally run it with screen and let is throw the error in the detached screen...
I hope it will continue working...

Not a great idea,

OK wipe your motion_conf, set it up via the web GUI, that should be stable, only use the virtual motion_conf for odd tweaks that you need

Thanks again for all your help, Dave!!
What I wanted to accomplish:
I wanted to have motion record avi videos and take screenshots every minute. Those media files are stored on my NAS and I am able to play them via samba when needed... but this only when I am at home
I also wanted kmotion to only record swf videos in worse quality.  But I am able to see those videos via the browser when I am away from home.
If I copy all my motion.conf settings into virtual motion_conf, will it do what I need?
Thanks again Dave!!!
Your support is great!

I am a little confused, what I would suggest it setup kmotion to record swf files via the GUI and access them from your LAN or the internet via a browser.

Cheers

Dave

Foscam are a nightmare, they keep changing their interface on each
model and it looks like they have changed it again. I do not think the
modified driver will work for you.

kmotion is pretty well a dead project but I have some time this
weekend. If you want to port forward your camera so I can access its
interface I will see if I can get something working for it. Its
totally up to you

Dave

Thanks for your post :)

OK will leave it as it is, its not a user issue its the URL's that the cameras use for the PTZ controls, they keep moving them :)

Hello again Dave!
Thanks a lot for your offer! (I had actually created a reply to this post of yours on Friday, but then I had to leave on a hurry and must have forgotten to click the "Post" button - stupid me...)
Anyways, unless you need so for the project, it won't be necessary for me. I always have my android and can pan/tilt using my smartphone. So don't bother
BUT if you want to do this for the project, then I would be happy to give you access (the least I could do in order to give something back)
So please, if you need I can give access. If you don't need it for the project, then don't bother for me - I have a workaround anyways..
Thanks again!!!!1
