kiwiirc client was unique until recently in not passing the IP address. I understand the need for unique user identifiers for the purpose of bans. But it does not need to report the ip address in hex directly. A simple hash of the ip address would be sufficient. Can this feature be implemented to preserve user privacy?

Hi,

The hexed IP ident is there to lower the abuse of anonymous users.

Network admins do have the option to register their network on kiwiirc.com to change this if they wish. Or even better, to configure webirc so that bans still work as normal and any hostname masking works as normal.

There are many dedicated ways to stay anonymous online. But Kiwi was good for causal use without revealing IP address. Replacing the IP address with a different identifier unique to the IP address would allow one to survive just one additional ban, so it will still stop serial abusers just as well.
