Hello Kivy people,

I'm trying to get UrlRequest to work - I would love to use kivy to make apps, but I need them to be able to get and post data.

It works fine on OS X and linux, but when I build it in an apk, it does't do anything. If I call the wait method, it just freezes and never actually completes. No information is posted to logcat.

I am using bulldozer android_new, I have added openssl and pyopenssl to requirements, and I have  INTERNET as my android permissions in my bulldozer.spec.

Here's my main.py (for testing UrlRequest only, please excuse the mess)

import kivy
kivy.require('1.0.6') # replace with your current kivy version !

import requests

from kivy.app import App
from kivy.uix.label import Label
from kivy.uix.boxlayout import BoxLayout
from kivy.network.urlrequest import UrlRequest
from kivy.uix.popup import Popup
from kivy.logger import Logger
from kivy.config import Config

class MyApp(App):
pass

class MyRoot(BoxLayout):

def dosomething(self):
req = UrlRequest(
   self.got_weather, debug=True)
print 'URL set'
req.wait()
print 'wait initiated'

def got_weather(self, req, results):
mystring = ''
for key, value in results['weather'][0].items():
print(key, ': ', value)
mystring += str(value)
print mystring
print 'mystring created'
popup = Popup(title=mystring, content=Label(text=mystring))
print 'popup made'
popup.open()
print 'popup opened'

def dosomethingelse(self):
r = requests.get('https://api.github.com/user', auth=('user', 'pass'))
mystring = str(r.status_code)
popup = Popup(title=mystring, content=Label(text=mystring))
popup.open()

if __name__ == '__main__':
    MyApp().run()

and my kivy file...

MyRoot:
Button:
id: aids
text: 'Weather in France'
on_release: self.parent.dosomething()
Button:
id: bumaids
text: 'Requests'
on_release: self.parent.dosomethingelse()

 and my bulldozer.spec...

#    List as sections
#
#    You can define all the "list" as [section:key].
#    Each line will be considered as a option to the list.
#    Let's take [app] / source.exclude_patterns.
#    Instead of doing:
#
#[app]
#source.exclude_patterns = license,data/audio/*.wav,data/images/original/*
#
#    This can be translated into:
#
#[app:source.exclude_patterns]
#license
#data/audio/*.wav
#data/images/original/*
#

#    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
#    Profiles
#
#    You can extend section / key with a profile
#    For example, you want to deploy a demo version of your application without
#    HD content. You could first change the title to add "(demo)" in the name
#    and extend the excluded directories to remove the HD content.
#
#[app@demo]
#title = My Application (demo)
#
#[app:source.exclude_patterns@demo]
#images/hd/*
#
#    Then, invoke the command line with the "demo" profile:
#
#buildozer --profile demo android debug

Any ideas? Any help would really be appreciated, I've been struggling with this for a very long time and it's starting to wear me out!

Thanks guys.

I have the exact same problem, even though the permissions section in the buildozer.spec is not commented out. It works just fine on Ubuntu 16.04. But on my Samsung 3 nothing really happens (the app doesn't crash or anything).

Any help is really appreciated.
