The third meeting has been announced on the website:
http://kingston.motd.org/2011/05/13/third-meeting-at-700-pm-may-17/

Where: Queen’s Grad Club (Google Map).
When: Tuesday May 17 7:00 pm.

For reference, here is our Group Calendar.

Please show your support for the group by showing up to the meeting, and inviting whomever you think may be interested.

Topics suggested so far:
  1. Setting up a home network.
  2. Embedded Linux (Devices operated internally by Linux).
  3. Compiling your kernel.
  4. Digital forensics; CND & CNA (BackTrack 4)
  5. Server, primary web server (Ubuntu Server)
  6. Troubleshooting and repairing Windows-based hosts (various).
Being the first discussion, it will be mostly an overview of the chosen topic, rather than an in-detail tutorial. Eventually, we would like to get to the point where we have a tutorial format with hands-on experience.

To make it more interesting, the first vote for a topic among the already suggested ones will decide the actual topic of the meeting.

So, vote away!

It's settled then. Digital forensics it is.

Jeff, would you be willing to give us a brief introduction to the subject of Digital Forensics using Linux in our next meeting, tomorrow?

As much as I would really love to, I won't be able to make it tonight yet again.  Sorry, all - maybe next time!

This is very interesting guys to have a Linux Group in ECE Queens,
I'm Mohamed Atia, PhD Candidate in Queens and also working in Software Industry and recently I started to use Linux development for embedded systems,
I hope we we can exchange ideas and experiences

Thank you Mohamed for expressing your interest.
We look forward to seeing you in future meetings.

I am particularly interested in hearing about your experience with Linux in embedded systems.

Thanks Ahmad,
Unfortunately I'm working in a company in Alberta Calgary as a software development lead and I cannot attend your meetings,
I have 10+ years industry experience in C/C++ but on Windows not Linux,
Starting from 2010 I started to play with Linux for embedded systems due to the company business requirements,

I hope we can exchange ideas and thoughts through e-mails and web,

Many thanks,
Mohamed

Hi guys,

It's great we have a LUG at ECE of Queen's! My name is Ye Li. I'm also
a phd candidate here, but my research interests lie in wireless
communication. So it might be a little far from computer science
regime. I have been using Linux for nearly 6 years, my current distro
is Archlinux on thinkpad T400. It's my only desktop OS. :-) Glad to
meet you!

Best Regards

Hello Ye,

Thanks for stopping by.
You are most welcome here, even if your research was on parasites!
This group is not affiliated with ECE, computer science, or even Queen's. Not yet anyway.
Right now, we have probably as many non-Queen's active members as Queen's affiliated members, if not more.

Archlinux is cool. Thinkpads are awesome.
Some time soon, we should post a distro poll, followed by a hardware brand poll ;)
See you next meeting..
