Not sure if I am jumping the gun here, but linux-next is now lagging
behind linux.

It made no sense to update linux-next to 4.12.10 (while all testing needed to be focussed on linux), since it will move to 4.13 today, so, yes you are correct it is lagging now to linux. Expect linux-next 4.13 as soon as the hardened patches are ready for it.
