I'm having issues setting up a Gmail account on K9 Mail. Actually I can't set up any of my email addresses (Gmail, and two .edu accounts) but I'm mainly concerned with Gmail.

I downloaded the app, it installed, once in the application I clicked "Next" which sent me to the "Set up new account" screen where I input my email address and password and lick next. I have checked my password to make sure it is correctly typed in and all I get is a "Setup could not finish; Username or password incorrect. ()" message. I've even tried using the manual setup with no avail.

Can someone help a brother out?

Thanks.

Make sure IMAP is enabled for your Gmail accounts:

Both POP and IMAP have been enabled since, according to Gmail, 2010.

I'm curious what phone you have?  Which Android build do you have?  I have the same problem on my Note 2 with Android 4.1.1.  I've searched all the settings, multiple websites, and still can't find an answer.

I am having a similar problem. I have three addresses on Google. I was able to link two and I couldn't link the third. I removed one trying to attach the third and still couldn't and now I can't reattach the second one. The IMAP in forwarding is set correctly. My phone is a Galaxy S3

Same problem with me: switched from Galaxy S to Galaxy S4 mini. It is not possible to install the Gmail account and synchronize. This is an absolute showstopper to use K9, with only one mail account to handle. All settings (IMAP) match requirements.

I know I'm using the correct credentials. What gives?
Kind regards for a quick fix.
By the way. The two yahoo email accts I already setup work fine. Is just Gmail.

I think I solved the problem (at least my issue is resolved)
I quickly realized I had turned Google's 2-step security verification on (which I recommended) and sure enough.
Once I used the application-specific password generated by google, it worked as it should.

I had the same problem with K@mail setup with error message saying incorrect username & password for my Gmail account. I found post somewhere that mentioned " allow less secure apps access to google" account in privacy and security settings and after turning this on my K@mail account now working with Gmail again. I think Google changed their security settings a couple of months ago as this coincided with my gmail messages stopping in K@mail account. Hope this works for you
