Hi together,

As you might know the deadline for project submissions under numfocus' umbrella ends March 27. We have to decide how many and which projects we want to accept. Those will then be included in the numfocus application.

Currently, there are 2 proposals for Julia: one with JuliaWeb and one with JuliaQuantum. So I guess we could simply nominate both, but should be prepared that we might only get one spot.

Since I don't know how the nomination process worked last year, I wanted to start this thread.

Best,

Alex.

Hi,

I'm the person who wrote up and submitted the JuliaWeb proposal. Feel free to ask any questions about it. I've found a student willing to work on the project and he has submitted a detailed agenda.

Cheers,

Seth.

Hi Seth,

I know that you are listed for mentoring the JuliaWeb project. Should we get the chance, I would mentor the other project :-) I wasn't sure you know about the modalities, so I cc'ed you on github, when I asked Raniere how the scoring works. Apparently we are supposed to discuss internally how many and which projects we want to nominate, so I started this thread. It is probably Ok if we nominate both projects to be submitted to Google. However, Julia might get only one slot and I think we should discuss what will happen in this case? Maybe Stefan, Viral and Jeff should decide in this case?

What do you think?

Best,

Alex.

Hi Alex,

to my understanding the selection of proposals will only take place in
the next two weeks. So there is still some (little) time in case
students want to submit additional proposals.

Cheers,
Tobias

We can only select proposals submitted before March 27th 19:00 UTC.
In the next two weeks we will compare the proposals.

Hi Tobias,

You are right. We have roughly until 13 April to review and rank student proposals (according to the GSoC timeline). But any proposal has to be submitted before March 27th 19:00 UTC! I just wanted to figure out how we organize the ranking and selection before we start to rank and select :-)

Best,

Alex.

I'm fine with that approach.

Seth.
