Maybe the public need to learn some lessons from these well-mannered dogs!!!
I had some miserable experiences in Mumbai with public urinals outside the Siddhi Vinayak temple!!!! Gawd !!!! They were awful. I was informed that the UK gives a total of half a billion dollars or pounds in aid to India and part of it is to make latrines – wonder where the money goes!!! NO wonder when Danny Boyle made the “slumdog millionaire” and Amitabh Bacchhan poo pooed the movie.. I was compelled to write on his blog that he needs to get a life – go spend some time in the slums of Dharavi and do some public service instead of driving around in his sanitized Lexus. He called it the underbelly or something!! I think the picture is an accurate depiction of what happens in these slums ( maybe some exaggeration to increase the dramatic effect) – whether in Mumbai, Warsaw or in Pretoria.. have seen all. Instead of criticizing the movie maker who accurately portrayed the movie, the leaders should be ashamed and embarrassed and do something about the general health of the public in these godforsaken place. India cannot hide behind the cloak of a developing nation any more – it is fast emerging as an economy powerhouse. It can afford to spend a billion dollars on space exploration but will not ensure the basic necessities to its population.
I got into a little bit of to and fro here some years back with that damned CM – Mayawati when she was not in power. She started lecturing me on how I should raise money to be sent to India – I retorted yeah – I should do that to make you even more shamelessly wealthy!!!! I have never received an invite from the BSP guys after that.. good riddance!!!! Lucky me.
Sorry I digressed !!!!

Sanjay - the day we can root out the corruption and I am not saying the
chotta motta types but the real big money - we will see the power and the
brilliance of India. We as a race are extemely intelligent and hard
working.. look wherever we go - we earn the respect of the masses
immediately (except in Australia since they themselves are descendents from
the criminals shipped from UK). We lack discipline in India but when we live
in the west - we become disciplined because the rules are set up
differently. Most Pakistanis do not want to be identified as Pakistanis -
they will sneakily say we are Indians!!! And this is not after 9/11 but from
much earlier on. I tease a lot of our Pakistani friends here.. saalon tum
India ko gaali nikaltey ho but tumhare ghar mein sub Indian films dekte
hain!! Outside - you don't want to be identified as Pakistanis but quitely
slip in and say we are Indians and people change their attitude towards
you.. you guys take advantage of India on every corner and under any and
evey pretext...
Take care - gotta go and sleep!!!

If that is a big issue – should we not include it into our Alumni Assoc. agenda for the future? Raise enough money so that one day in a year – all present students of SJA go and plant a tree each in some place in Dehra Dun!!!! The location has to be selected in advance and ensured that someone will take care of the trees for the first year. Perhaps, the student who planted can do this…it teaches one how to plant and take care!!
How many students do we have in the 9 thru the 12 grades in SJA. Raising funds to buy saplings for this effort should not be a big deal. It should give the school a good image, great PR and thus a buy in onto the idea. I would think that the Principal would not have an issue with such a cause.
I remember we ran marathon for leprosy colony ..and collected money. There was a very smart, kind retired Sikh Maj General who was the overall in charge of the Leprosy colony. I am talking of mid and late 70’s. I volunteered 2 years in a row till my mom found out and banned it as there was a fear of it being contagious.
One day in a year and that two not more than 2-3 hours.

Mahesh – great!!! If all is set.. I will commit to another 200 saplings too. Just for your information.. one of the first eco & sustainable tourism websites in the USA www.manaca.com was co-founded by me.
So all said and down – Sanjay, if you get to talk with the registered Alumni office bearers – please let them know that we already have a commitment of 400 saplings for planting in a preselected place. We can actually raise the bar to even 2000 by fundraising for this event.
Anymore commitments friends???
Take care,

Himanshu – I am impressed. I have joined the group. Since 1997 when I ventured on to the Green Travel Network, I have been at the forefront of opposing various eco-endangering projects. It is one of the most frustrating activist activity. However – kudos to all that care and put their heart, soul and physical might to it. Here in the US, we had an administration for 8 years that opposed every sensible plans for environmentally friendly projects.
However, I have learnt one thing. It’s one thing to create awareness and oppose. It’s another to quietly reassemble, reengage and contribute. The very fact that we can have 400/2000 saplings planted within in a day goes much longer than any protest which is looked upon as extreme activitism. I will do all possible to lend my support to these daring folks but the SJA Alumni should take a different path by being responsible and productive and planting this saplings are actually an act of active conserving.
Thank you,

Some of our Josephites like Laksha Gautam and Nitin Pandey are doing a wonderful job for green Dun. They're deeply involved in fighting de-forestation taking place in Dun. Recently there was a massive rally against the de-forestation done by ONGC. They have fought tooth and nail against the de-forestation at SJA too. Pl check the group, Citizens for green Doon on FB http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=110586359842

HI Ambuj,
Could not agree more with you on any of the points you have mentioned below. I also strongly endorse “one Alumni that promotes the one mega event” . All are welcome to be part of it even with different ideologies as long as the end goal remains the same – work to promote the name and image of SJA.
