Maybe the public need to learn some lessons from these well-mannered dogs!!!

I had some miserable experiences in Mumbai with public urinals outside the Siddhi Vinayak temple!!!! Gawd !!!! They were awful. I was informed that the UK gives a total of half a billion dollars or pounds in aid to India and part of it is to make latrines – wonder where the money goes!!! NO wonder when Danny Boyle made the “slumdog millionaire” and Amitabh Bacchhan poo pooed the movie.. I was compelled to write on his blog that he needs to get a life – go spend some time in the slums of Dharavi and do some public service instead of driving around in his sanitized Lexus. He called it the underbelly or something!! I think the picture is an accurate depiction of what happens in these slums ( maybe some exaggeration to increase the dramatic effect) – whether in Mumbai, Warsaw or in Pretoria.. have seen all. Instead of criticizing the movie maker who accurately portrayed the movie, the leaders should be ashamed and embarrassed and do something about the general health of the public in these godforsaken place. India cannot hide behind the cloak of a developing nation any more – it is fast emerging as an economy powerhouse. It can afford to spend a billion dollars on space exploration but will not ensure the basic necessities to its population.

I got into a little bit of to and fro here some years back with that damned CM – Mayawati when she was not in power. She started lecturing me on how I should raise money to be sent to India – I retorted yeah – I should do that to make you even more shamelessly wealthy!!!! I have never received an invite from the BSP guys after that.. good riddance!!!! Lucky me.

Sorry I digressed !!!!

Sanjay - the day we can root out the corruption and I am not saying the
chotta motta types but the real big money - we will see the power and the
brilliance of India. We as a race are extemely intelligent and hard
working.. look wherever we go - we earn the respect of the masses
immediately (except in Australia since they themselves are descendents from
the criminals shipped from UK). We lack discipline in India but when we live
in the west - we become disciplined because the rules are set up
differently. Most Pakistanis do not want to be identified as Pakistanis -
they will sneakily say we are Indians!!! And this is not after 9/11 but from
much earlier on. I tease a lot of our Pakistani friends here.. saalon tum
India ko gaali nikaltey ho but tumhare ghar mein sub Indian films dekte
hain!! Outside - you don't want to be identified as Pakistanis but quitely
slip in and say we are Indians and people change their attitude towards
you.. you guys take advantage of India on every corner and under any and
evey pretext...

Take care - gotta go and sleep!!!

That is absolutely funny. On a  serious note- I really feel concerned about Some places in India where we literally have no trees.Dehra Dun is a prime example, there is more brick and mortar and less trees. At one time, it had a lot of trees.

If that is a big issue – should we not include it into our Alumni Assoc. agenda for the future? Raise enough money so that one day in a year – all present students of SJA go and plant a tree each in some place in Dehra Dun!!!! The location has to be selected in advance and ensured that someone will take care of the trees for the first year. Perhaps, the student who planted can do this…it teaches one how to plant and take care!!

How many students do we have in the 9 thru the 12 grades in SJA. Raising funds to buy saplings for this effort should not be a big deal. It should give the school a good image, great PR and thus a buy in onto the idea. I would think that the Principal would not have an issue with such a cause.

I remember we ran marathon for leprosy colony ..and collected money. There was a very smart, kind retired Sikh Maj General who was the overall in charge of the Leprosy colony. I am talking of mid and late 70’s. I volunteered 2 years in a row till my mom found out and banned it as there was a fear of it being contagious.

One day in a year and that two not more than 2-3 hours.

Mahesh – great!!! If all is set.. I will commit to another 200 saplings too. Just for your information.. one of the first eco & sustainable tourism websites in the USA www.manaca.com was co-founded by me.

So all said and down – Sanjay, if you get to talk with the registered Alumni office bearers – please let them know that we already have a commitment of 400 saplings for planting in a preselected place. We can actually raise the bar to even 2000 by fundraising for this event.

Anymore commitments friends???

Himanshu – I am impressed. I have joined the group. Since 1997 when I ventured on to the Green Travel Network, I have been at the forefront of opposing various eco-endangering projects. It is one of the most frustrating activist activity. However – kudos to all that care and put their heart, soul and physical might to it. Here in the US, we had an administration for 8 years that opposed every sensible plans for environmentally friendly projects.

However, I have learnt one thing. It’s one thing to create awareness and oppose. It’s another to quietly reassemble, reengage and contribute. The very fact that we can have 400/2000 saplings planted within in a day goes much longer than any protest which is looked upon as extreme activitism. I will do all possible to lend my support to these daring folks but the SJA Alumni should take a different path by being responsible and productive and planting this saplings are actually an act of active conserving.

Thank you,

How're you doing? Any talks with SJA Alumni to chalk out the future plan. Sanjay sir would be in Dun shortly. Please organise a meeting with Ajay Goel, Taranpreet, Vikram, Vohra, Bhutani, Ashwani Gandhi. Let us all get into the reunion mode fast before it gets too late and Platinum Jubilee year gets over.

Placing herebelow my Response to Himanshu Chauhan's posting on his Facebook Group where he has proposed merger with the official Alumni:

I endorse you 100% and offer whatever help required for the same to be implemented.

This chaos has been created by those who became somewhat "insecure" - insecure of losing a "coveted" position - As I have said earlier and I repeat here now, it is high time that all the several groups join (or merge) into one single alumni association that should be the official group - and because, such an official group already exists, whats required is that all of us should help organize that group into a global federation that will be active and will exist forever - it may have Chapters - regional, local or per country - but all of these Chapters will belong to one formal official association whose Committee shall be duly elected from the several who can give their time and effort to the common cause.

We had created a parallel Site for NCR Chapter so that we could effectively manage the Meet as we were not receiving any cooperation from the so called Re-union Team. The domains alumnisja.com is available for redirection / hosting the official Web Site of the Official Parent Association. The management of the same should of course be only with a designated team of professional IT guys. Much filth has been thrown on me by two young boys, who are misusing the medium of Internet. I can respond, both legally and unofficially, but I will exercise restraint to extent possible.

I have repeated in various mediums earlier too, that there are some of us like me, who are not looking to any officio / ex officio position on any alumni association - but want to give back something, howmuchsoever miniscule a contribution it may be, to our School. No mavericks can stop us from that.

Lets all get together, under a single banner and I am sure Col Sanjay Sharma will help the cause by taking few steps in that direction in the coming days.

Mahesh,

The problem is Registered Alumni does not have a group on internet. They have been plg events at micro level where word of mouth, land line and ad in local news paper used to suffice. Now there is a much broader base and they have to move fast to open the Alumni Gp in co-ordination with school.

School web site is already there which needs major improvements. The Green Horns from school have done a wonderful job in getting that site on-line. They need professional guidance from the ol' folks who are professionals in this field amongst us. There were few of us who had promised to do the same in six months time but there is no joy yet. The young guns fm school were so disheartened by the negative publicity of their site that they have stopped working on it any more.

sorry for not responding earlier,

I have already discussed with many in the current executive committee and they are ok about  this meeting .I request as many of us should come to Dehradun when Sanjay Sharmaji is in doon  for discussing the mega even and future road map.

But just read one more mail where Nitin and Rohan have announced mega reunion meet . I again feel we should have a constructive brain storming with  concrete points on road ahead  before meeting the executive committee
a] to show the strength and strong desire to have a mega meet in SJA
b] not to confuse by showing desire by 2 or more different groups to hold this event . [ As per Bro George there  has to be a single Alumni for any organization] . this might dampen our spirits sooner or latter

I once again request all to come forward together [ irrespective of our different ideologies ] because everybody's  direct or indirect goal is to have a Mega event , be part of a very Strong Alumni  which works closely with school

HI Ambuj,

Could not agree more with you on any of the points you have mentioned below. I also strongly endorse “one Alumni that promotes the one mega event” . All are welcome to be part of it even with different ideologies as long as the end goal remains the same – work to promote the name and image of SJA.

Dear Mr Ambuj Oberoi,

I have never met with you or spoken with you; but as I read, its clear that my colleagues on this group trust you and your supposed approach to matters that we are all addressing.

I will endorse the view for a Mega Event each year. I also am for, and that is the larger reason for some of us having been thrown out of the previous group and some of us leaving it, for a larger, unified, merged, single Alumni that already exists and is recognized by the school.

There should be only one ideaology and that should be for reorganization and strengthening and broad basing of THE registered alumni association - leading to - all of us, young and old and middle aged(!) coming together to be a part of and helping organize a mega event that is a celebration of this unity and not just an event with hope of unity in future following the success of the mega event. If its the latter, the success and unity forever will remain subjects of discussion and will cast doubts on the possibility of another Mega event, another celebration the next year.

Please let this be a moment of reconciliation when most of us all would proudly feel a "part" of The unified, larger association. Let's achieve unity in the correct format, it won't come easy as there would be many splintered egoes that we'll have to mend and carry or dispense with along the way.

I'm sure we'll feel happier and feel the "belonging" in the unified, merged Alumni association and celebrate it in the form of a Mega Event each year at school and more events at various times at various places all over the world whenever a few alums in such places can find a good excuse to get together.

As I did elaborate in my mail to the Group yesterday, all of us should offer all the help that's needed to achieve this unification. We must approach the school first for reorganization, strengthening, additional enrolments, bring the Main Association online with all people and investment support as required.

The Mega Event will automatically happen !!

I offer my wholehearted support and will make myself available for any deliberation on the subject. I am very hopeful and confident that Col Sharma would successfully, on behalf of all of us, carry the flame of unity to its destiny.

Best Regards,
Mahesh PS Gandhi
