Hi all,

at last JAB I talked with TJ about the support in terms of promotion
for Joomla!Event at the j.org site family. We could easily agree that
we can do that better :-) Some weeks ago we talked again and decided
to start building a new site for Joomla!Events, goals for this site:

* Directory of events (first Joomla!Day, but later also Joomla!nights,
Joomla!whatever, maybe JUG meetings, ....)
* Directory of speakers/presentations
* Not sure but might be an option, a directory of sponsors

TJ accepted to lead that team and push this topic. Any help is
appreciated just raise your hand here or get in contact with TJ.

Cheers,
Robert

What I would suggest is that there are two parts of the site.

1. The public part listing all events etc
2. The private part listing resources eg speakers, sponsors, techinical for event organisers

Hi Robert,

Does "Directory of events" include past events? I'd love to see a
historic archive of past events somewhere on the site. There certainly
is a rich history of J!Day events that could be displayed in some
manner :)

I would agree with Brian. A private portion of the site for event organizers would be great for access to resources.
However, when I hear the word "Directory" it does not sound cohesive with "Events".
Has there been any discussion as to what type of system (existing or custom) would be utilized for this type of site?

I not sure for what we need a private area, but I am fine with having one.

About the System, I have spoken with Radek (Sobi) if he would help, he said yes, but nothing is build in stone. What I will not do is a loooooog discussion about the system we use. I would love to discuss the goals for the site and what people think what information we should publish there.

Cheers,
Robert

Hi Robert,

My two cents on the goals of an events site would be...

1) Promote all upcoming J! events (maybe not JUG meetings... too many
of those?)
2) An archive of past J! events (i.e. historical timeline)
3) Documentation for event organizers (like Brian and Mike mentioned)

Also like the idea of having a directory of speakers and individual
profiles for each where speakers can display which events they spoke
at, what their presentation was on, and maybe a link to the powerpoint
for people to view (maybe even option to embed slideshare.net
uploads).

Hello everyone … great ideas coming in!

I'm sorry I've not chimed in before now.  There's been a death in my family that has taken my focus.  I am planning to try to get back to 'business as usual' on Monday, and will get us a place set up to start developing the site which we can later move into place.

I've been reading all the ideas over the last few days as I was able, and am excited to get this going!

I too really like Justin's  last communicated ideas!

Looking forward to getting going with this, and getting to know you all soon!

Until next week, cheers!

Hi Guys
I would like to see documentation which can be sent to Sponsors, so that they can see what they get out of the sponsorship and also basic contracts with sponsors.

This should be private...

The speaker idea also sounds great, as this will help target speakers for events, we always have issues with this, and it would be great to have this resource...
