You have to remember this is a 1.6, 1.7, pre 2.5.18 to a current 2.5.x. 

Probably not the easiest or recommended way but if you have no other choice, it is a valid, working method. Elin went over the doc months ago too. 

Only Mark can answer the database fix with any certainty, he wrote it iirc.
