joomla and its properties

hello guys im new to joomla
just wanted to find out how to Log in to the Joomla! Administrator Back-end in order to add a new menu.i also would appreciate if i can be given a heads up on if im to learn the wiki markup only or i can edit with pure html.I need some guidance on that and anything i may have missed in the course of browsing

You need to ask about Joomla admin backend in http://forum.joomla.org/ but it's down at the moment
