Override layout/joomla/system/message

When I create Template for Joomla 3 I can override layout/joomla/content.

What is the proper way to override layout/joomla/system/message? I've tried to do it in the same way: I place layout/joomla/system folder with message.php file to my temlate into 'html' folder. But no chage in message layout.
