Article order after update to 3.7.0

There have been some reports in the forum about the Article ordering in Admin not working as expected

Could the problem be the php version on the server or is it PEBKAC ?

Yes ... but the reported problem is that the change causes the vote order to be default instead of ID.  It could be that their sites may not have updated correctly and fields are missing in the database ... thus causing their issue ?
