Why not simply use a different captcha? That is why Joomla uses plugins for that in the first place. I don't see why we would need to write a completely new mechanism for this...

I just wanted to share this idea while I was here, because my code for recaptcha stopped working after google went to version 2, and on looking into it, I see there is a new thing for invisible bot rejection. Well that's great, but it would be really nice if we didn't have to create template overrides all over again.--What about a plugin where you can just put {captcha} in your template override and it would insert whatever captcha you choose in the plugin settingsZ?
