SUMMARY:


NextGen Climate is a nonpartisan organization focused on bringing climate change to the forefront of American politics. In 2016, NextGen will be working to support candidates who have demonstrated a serious commitment to taking immediate policy action to address climate change issues.

As a part of this program, NextGen Climate will run a substantial grassroots organizing and communications program to persuade and turn out targeted voters, with a focus on young voters and college students. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Oversee the statewide Youth Vote program, including the management of regional field directors, field organizers, a data manager, and paid student fellows
  • Execute a statewide voter registration program on campuses across the state, including site-based voter registration drives over the summer, college orientation and move-in voter registration drives in the fall, and large events in the lead up to Voter Registration deadlines
  • Execute a student Get Out The Vote plan on key campuses
  • Where appropriate, develop and implement a Get Out The Early Vote program
  • Build and maintain strategic and tactical relationships with youth and campus organizations across the state, as well as other stakeholders
  • Work with allies on election protection programs to ensure student voters are able to vote seamlessly
  • Manage a communications and digital staff who will tell the story of our youth voter engagement strategy and stay in a regular dialogue with campus newspapers and youth-focused media outlets off-campus
  • Highlight, and when necessary, develop press-worthy events for young voters and NextGen Climate volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one cycle of field management strongly recommended
  • Previous field organizing experience and experience registering voters required
  • Specific experience working on student and/or campus organizing programs preferred
  • Strong communication, management, and motivational skills
  • The ability to work within a team environment
  • Experience managing a program budget preferred but required
  • The Youth Vote Director will receive significant training and support from NextGen Climate staff
  • Potential campaign staff will be expected to work up to 80 hours per week through the November election
