EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest financial resource for women candidates, is searching for a Campaign Finance Advisor to join our Campaigns team. Throughout its 30 year history, the organization has recruited and trained over 9,000 women to run, worked to elect 110 pro-choice Democratic women to the House, 19 to the Senate, 11 governors, and over 700 women to state and local office. EMILY’s List has also helped elect every single Latina, African American, and Asian American Democratic Congresswoman currently serving.

 

About FOCUS 2020

 

EMILY’s List is committed to supporting the campaigns of state legislative, down ballot statewide, and 2018 gubernatorial candidates in key redistricting states. This cycle, we are providing additional targeted campaign assessment and support to candidates. 

 

Principal Responsibilities

 

As a member of the Campaigns Department, the Campaign Finance Advisor will work with pro-choice Democratic women candidates to assess the fundraising and campaign operations of down ballot statewide and targeted state legislative races. The Campaign Finance Advisor helps guide campaigns through the course of assessment and endorsement. The Campaign Finance Advisor continuously evaluates the fundraising operation throughout the course of the campaign for endorsed candidates.

 

Specific Duties

 

·         Travel across assigned region assessing candidates’ campaign finance operations by utilizing the abilities to do the following:

o   Find effective finance directors and other fundraising staff in partnership with state legislative caucuses and other state-based allied groups;

o   Write fundraising plans that include groups of donor targets, tools and raising strategies;

o   Project realistic incremental goals;

o   Employ call time that is effective and regular;

o   Implement a complete and efficient system for call time;

o   Establish high-quality systems for tracking campaign income, processing contributions, motivating surrogate fundraisers and all other aspects of the campaign fundraising operation;

o   Utilize database software for maintaining fundraising records;

o   Write effective fundraising solicitation and re-solicitation mail and email that are in compliance with all state finance laws;

o   Quickly learn the giving priorities of key state individual donors and state PACs.

·         Work as part of the team of EMILY’s List staff who evaluate other aspects of the campaigns;

·         Work with campaign managers and finance directors on assessing overall campaign budget;

·         Help screen and advise campaigns on fundraising consultants, contracts and relationships;

·         Train candidates and staff on the proper way to ask for money and develop fundraising messages;

·         Assist with the EMILY’s List fundraising training program.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

The FOCUS 2020 Campaign Finance Advisor must be a self-starter with a minimum of two cycles of campaign fundraising experience; must have progressed through the ranks serving as Finance Director or campaign manager on at least two campaigns, with three overall cycles of campaign experience preferred. Must be results-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, impeccable attention to detail, adaptability, a sense of humor, and have fundamental knowledge of state election laws.  Must be willing to travel extensively, and work long hours. Must have extensive Excel skills, familiarity with NGP Software; and a commitment to electing pro-choice Democratic women. Position can be remotely based in United States.
